When I was s3xuaIIy assaulted as a 14 year old, I wasn’t able to listen to rap the weeks following the attack. I went from loving regular hip hop to having flashbacks to being in his car on the way to my doom every time I heard it. The base was too loud and would send me into a panic. I remember looking in the mirror the day following the r*pe, undressed, crying, feeling like I had lost a piece of myself. Or even my entire self. I found this song, it was so comforting, it was able to relax me as I showered, which was really hard in the days following the attack. I often revisit this song to remember the peace it brought me in the midst of one of the worst times in my life. I would play it any time I had to shower; knowing I would be on edge any time I was undressed. This was one of few songs I could handle at the time. Anything too loud or fast would cause me to hyperventilate. The way I was introduced to Lo-Fi was unfortunate, but I’m glad I stumbled across this when I did.
