U.S.G.: A New Beginning

My first solo album for piano. These pieces I wrote over the first years I lived in Virginia, inspired by people and events have affected me deeply in one way or another. Most are in a minimalist style, and most were originally improvised though re-recorded for this album.

Wilfred the Hero

Recorded while my hands were broken and I couldn't play piano for a few weeks, and only had use of a few fingers. Mostly a study piece in arranging one of my favorite pieces of video game music from SaGa Frontier It is pretty harmonically interesting in how it hovers around a sort of made up mode but also mixolydian. The mastering is very rough but this was mostly for personal study. Please enjoy!

The Robot Drives a Superfast Car out in the Country

BLAKJN-8598 stumbles upon a beautiful, metallic object stuck in the snow. It is about the size of a small book.

"What is it?" wonders BLAKJN-8598. The object appears to have no apparent purpose, but for some reason, the robot cannot help but carefully inspect its smooth, gleaming, chrome-like contours for hours.

The Robot is Captivated by a Beautiful Object

Just before sunrise, BLAKJN-8598 has an epiphany.

Smiling, he carefully sets the metallic object into the snow for the next wayward soul to stumble upon and find inspiration. 

"Thank you," he says to the object, completely certain that it can understand him.

Composed in 2006 for video game "Grave Spirit". Music is very dark and baroque-influenced. Instrumentation for 5-section string ensemble, celesta, and harp. 

This was my first soundtrack project working for another individual, and I submitted several tracks from in lieu of an audition to study music at UW-River Falls in 2005.
