Stars Fate Love Sex Universe

Most of the tracks here were recorded with the Milk in its various forms. The original line up (92-97)was: Brett Doig on Bass and vocals, Tristan Goodall on guitars, Mark Lockwood on Drums and me on vocals and occasional guitar. When Tristan left to form the Audreys, we had a major membership shake up. Brett moved to guitars, and Matt Sinnott took over bass. Mikey G Joined us on violin,  vocals  and, of course, the egg. Ruby Lou Faith also joined as vocalist. 
Eventually Mark gave up the drums and took over on the bass. It was at this point Mikey’s extraordinary egg shaker skills really showed up, completely overshadowing my unnecessary mandolin interruptions. The band played their last gig early 2001, (I think). Anyway, some of the live songs are from that final gig.

In the first incarnation all the songs were created as a band in rehearsals, or long distance by Tascam 4-track. I wrote Pigeon, A Little Johnny on the Rocks, Bang the Lie and Sunday Best. Ruby wrote Pinkness and Out of Time. Falling Days was a collaboration with Brett Doig. All arrangements were by the band.

There are various live recordings of the Milk from all the different versions of the band as well as some studio recordings (on magnetic tape).

The Slippery Whispers were Robin Pratt and I. I wrote both songs and Robin recorded and arranged all the instruments and sang backing vocals. 

Universals was written by Andy Scott and me. He sent me the instrumental in an email and I wrote and recorded the vocal. 

Every time I Live was made in a similar way. Mark Lockwood wrote and recorded the basic original instrumental version and sent it as an email. I wrote and recorded a vocal. We sent that to Andy Scott, who transformed it again with more instrumentation and vocals. 

Brant’s got GarageBand is exactly what it seems. I like to call this band Brant and the Everyday Robots, but I know probably shouldn’t.

I’ve always thought of the lyrics I write as comedic. Not in the laugh out loud sense, of course. More in the sense of a private joke I get to share. It is always honest, however. Although I’m always playing a character, it’s usually a character based on me, to be fair. But not me! I dream of achieving satire. But satire as a path to the truth.

“Good luck with that.” is something a student said to me on my very first day as registered and employed teacher. She meant the likelihood of the essay submission date being met. But it’s a phrase I’ve taken with me for everything since.
