We wanted to get back to basics, back to the fundamentals of deep house. SANCTIFY is that series, showcasing the greatest deep house DJs on Earth &mdash; the adept practitioners who believe in the mysterious and awesome spiritual power of deep house music. 

This series is by invitation only, and our first invite went out to our friend **Brawther**. You can also read our feature story with him elsewhere in the latest issue of 5 Mag.

The pack that started it all! When i launched my Patreon, i decided to compile a bunch of sounds i had collected for years through my Akai Mpc 60 Mk2 and sequential circuits Studio 440 and share it with my members. 

I then used the opportunity to create a competition as i asked the producers to use the pack and create some lovely music. 

The result turned into an actual 12" record followed by Bandcamp exclusives.

There were some real stand-out sets at Block9 in 2016 but one of our favourite pairings was that of Brawther and Tristan Du Cunha, two regulars when it comes rolling out fierce, show-stopping house.

Brawther broke onto the house scene back in 2009, after an exchange with Chez Damier over Myspace led to the release of his 'Untitled' record on Damier's, at-the-time, newly revived Balance Alliance label. In more recent times he's been quietly working on his first studio album 'Transient States', a record he's self released on his new label Negentropy, and one he's described as being able to work on with 'complete utter freedom' since commencing the project. Showcasing deeply-rooted works ranging from house to dub, broken beat and downtempo, the eight track album see's the French producer working with an array of studio musicians and vocalists, with unsung Detroit hero Javontte tapped for the album centre piece "I Can't Explain".

We caught up with Sammy to discuss the direction and collaborations on his new album, getting invited by Fumiya Tanaka to come play his Chaos party in Japan, his long-time friendship with Chez Damier and  forthcoming music under his collaborative Dungeon Meat alias. On Truancy Volume 218, Brawther showcases a more low-key listening side, delving deep into the jazzier side of his collection, but with a strong emphasis on groove throughout. Featuring music from the likes of Uriel, The Other Project, King Britt, and more, it's a free-flowing hour, that should please long-time Brawther fans.

Truancy Volume 218: Brawther

Next up in our longstanding mix series we are delighted to showcase a man who could be described as a pioneer of house music. Brawther has been steadily casting a spell upon the genre for many years now, his music having been championed by the likes of Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Chez Damier and Jeremy Underground. He has released music on a far reaching number of record labels including the likes of Cabinet Records, Secretsundaze, My Love Is Underground, Balance and Jazzy Couscous. He has built a firm following amidst house and techno communities and has toured with relentless pace in recent years with a reputable string of appearances worldwide. 

This set was recorded at a special location in Berlin and was captured live from the booth at Club der Visionaere. For those of you who have been previously then you will note the nature of the sound, setting and place in the utmost detail. For those who have not, close your eyes and imagine.
