Harry Wolfman has been a staple member of the Dirt Crew family since his debut collaboration with Loz Goddard in 2016. We’ve since seen considerable growth with EPs on Phonica’s “Karakul”, “Omena” and “Outplay” all lending a hand to the development of his signature sound into its now established lo-fi style, delving into a range of genres... ethereal ambience, electro and left-field rhythms, and of course deep, often break beat laden house grooves.

This new EP is no exception, Harry drops some irresistible dance tunes with “Walk With Me” and the banging title track “Sly Contrast” but also explores the boundaries of his palette with the vocal interludes “A21z” and the majestic “Courage” featuring the voice of “Mona Vale”, dipping a toe into the floaty world of lo-fi pop.

We also find ambient and Jazz elements cleverly combined in “Fhloston Paradise”. And the closing drum break joint “Wokit Shep” loops live drums, strings, piano and brass elements, twirling towards a majestic finale reminiscing dusty jazzy Trip Hop and instrumental Hip Hop pieces.

This record offers hope for better times... we are really glad to have Harry back with these strong tunes and can’t wait to hear these out again on a juicy sound system. Enjoy!

This premiere is for the House Music heads out there: Italian DJ and producer Nnatn makes his debut on Night Vibez Records, an (also) Italian label devoted to all shades of the beloved good ol’ genre. From Soulful and Deep to Breakbeat and Acid, you can find some proper anthems in their growing catalogue.

Nnatn, in turn, was born in Italy in the early nineties and grew up nourished with big fat portions of classic House, Disco, and Afro. He started to produce in 2015 and has remained hard to pin down stylistically. His “Grooves – Pt. 1” is a five-track EP (all originals – competently crafted, by the way) in which you can easily notice the use of the aforementioned influences of his childhood.

Reviewed here, the Kerri Chandler-esque “Groovin Magic”, a bumping and sparkling theme with a beefy bassline, a colourful piano layer, an emotive synth pad, and an upbeat message: It’s as if the tune is trying to say, even without lyrics, “Hey, champ, tough times, but chin up, will you?”. A small dose of good vibes might be all we probably need today, isn’t it?

Following up to Rob Belleville’s inaugural delivery, Fluid Electronics returns in 2021 with a new collaborative EP courtesy of Dutch veteran Jarno, the man behind Trouw's infamous Below evenings, and Fluid Electronics’ co-founder and owner Shirazi, back in full swing after a ten-year break from production. The EP features remixes from Amsterdam’s Love Over Entropy and seminal Rotterdam-based duo, Duplex. 

The A-side finds Shirazi and Jarno dishing out a vaporous dub with the focus track, “Late Night Thoughts”. Engineering a mix of reverb-drenched atmospheric techno laced with hedonistic house accents and mystique-imbued melodies on a dreamy tip. Upping the tempo and overall vibe of the track, Love Over Entropy’s remix propels its listener in a blazing corridor of synth arpeggios and luminous chords.

The flip side sees Shirazi go solo on the ethereal “Continue Learning”, all in evocative spaciousness and textural finesse, as it merges the immersive depth of Basic Channel-esque envelopes with further straightforward floor dynamics. Clone-affiliated duo Duplex provides a tighter, jacking match to the original’s vaster headspace, tweaking it into a proper clinical club-ready weapon.

Exclusive: Vilaine Dufrene - Step Bump

With the original demo version of Step Bump! put up by Les Disques du Lobby last year, the track is now part of Parisian label Community Center's Bangers Service accompanied by four more pieces that are musically rooted in various periods of time and musical eras. Vilaine Dufrene's take, Step Bump, seems to be, at first, a typical workout track from the 80s with commands of how to move but at second listen offers Housey pads that unusually well fit the workout plan being provided throughout the track. With a rather positive tone, motivating one to move in the beat and heat of the moment, Step Bump is the track to gain back your pre-pandemic shape unconditionally at a physical and psychological level. Now recite the alphabet from Z to A backwards.

And yet again we are very excited to welcome another new artist to the Dirt Crew Recordings roster!

The mysterious Italian artist by the name of “Love Will Say No”. A new project by one half of internationally acclaimed Disco act “Fare Soldi”. After we received his demo we were really blown away by the rough and raw fusion of Disco, House and Techno and some great excursions in Indie Electronica with deep cinematic moments. He has a truly unique style in sampling and producing and we are thrilled to release music by him starting with this first EP or better call it a mini album.

The first two tracks were born during lockdowns and, from the same seeds, they develop different themes and feelings: The opening track “When This Is Over” is about those first days being witness of something that is difficult and historical at the same time, holding on to hope. The Disco infused groover “Days of Nothing” is about the other side of that, forced away from our families, friends, jobs, loves, lives: the confusion, the boredom, the months without any perspective about the future. But to be clear, it’s not an EP about the pandemic.

A great stomping and dark dance floor tune is “We Are Choices”. In his own words, this is a track about fate: we truly believe that our choices make our destiny, in a sort of constant motivational post on Instagram from and for morons, but the truth is that we are also the result of somebody else’s choices, and our lives are like the ones we make and those that we undergo, get knotty together.

One of our favorite little jams on this release is the blissful “Post Modern Ballad About You and Me”, this is such a beautiful piece of acid psychedelia with a great emotional touch. In his own words, exactly how one day a girl and a boy meet for no reason, and many years later they’re a family: and this is what the song is about, in my case.

The slow and steadily building “Now Say Goodbye to Your Friends” is another highlight for us. A real journey with a great fade out towards the end .. into the night. In his own words: In the past years I’ve moved from my hometown. Since then, I’ve been able to go back there always less than I wanted, so every time I was there it felt to me like the last day of a holiday, trying to spend time together with all my friends and having a good time, before leaving town without knowing when this would happen next time. This track was born during one of those nights, walking alone and drunk around the streets of my hometown in the small hours, just to smell and breath its air, before leaving.

Closing out with a real beast! “She Likes Blood”. We loved this one even if it is not really fitting the other tunes that much as it has this brutal drive and roar to it! In his own words: It is a raw jam born in one afternoon. I’ve tried to polish and smooth it many times, but it always refused to obey, like a wild animal. So, i left it like that, growling and snarling, waiting for a dance floor. We think it is a great way to end this EP and make people excited for what’s next to come from “Love Will Say No”!

Second in our Break 3000 revisited classics series are three songs from the period 2001-2002. The opener "Sacrifice" was featured on the great DJ-Kicks compilation by Tiga in 2002, a real breakthrough year for Electro Clash! The second track here is from the same period but was never released, we carefully recovered it from the DAT tapes for you. The finale is "Spacemaschinenreise", this one was on the first vinyl release on the Maastricht label Meuse Muzique and rounds of this second archive edition in a fine and spacey way. 

All tracks have been carefully recovered from the vaults and remastered at Salz Mastering in Cologne.

Break 3000 | Spacemachinenreise (Remastered) | Electron Feel

Coming up via Endless Music is "Blue Notes", a new EP by groovy house and disco aficionado Luca Olivotto. The deceptively named EP is far from "blue" and bursts with positive energy coming right in time for the start of summer. "I Know Ya", the first of the 3 tracks, features a strong bass and piano riff, setting the right mood for house vocals featured throughout the composition. A mixture of popular 80s sound aesthetics and classic house music can be clearly heard and felt here. The slightly faster title track "Blue Notes" follows a groovy path paved by the rhythm section and leads to a strong break with a powerful drop in the style of ecstatic disco functions. "Days and Nights", slightly moodier in nature, starts calm but quickly evolves in intensity thanks to its percussion elements and bassline, turning into a strong, yet soulful tune with beautiful, melancholic vocal lines and relaxing electric piano loops.

Acclaimed Brooklyn-based artist North Satellite returns to Darshan Jasrani’s Startree label with the bewitching four track ‘Core Discord’ EP released on 2 July. 

Following last year’s celebrated ‘A Rising Sign', with ‘Core Discord’, North Satellite, AKA Eugene Tambourine, draws inspiration from The I Ching - the Taoist book of philosophy which he has studied for 24 years - and the belief that all conflict stems from within us. Each of the four tracks were created under the central theme of Inner Conflict - something which plagues the individual and then society. 

With the opening track, ‘Evil’, North Satellite takes Earth, Wind & Fire’s 1973 social-commentary song and produces a laid-back, sensuous synth odyssey which admitted his own bad attitudes and misanthropy as well as that which he sees in other people.

‘Transcendentalmental’ is the balanced instrumental version of ‘Evil’, showcasing the cascading beats, chilled percussion, and shimmering synths. 

The elegantly balanced Balearic and Latin infused 'Fighting/Luchando’, presents tension and release in the instrumentation and soulful vocal refrains of “it’s my life I’m fighting for". In North Satellite’s words: "We’re all trying to maintain our mental, physical and spiritual health in these times. Bringing music to life in the studio is one of the few things which gives me a brief sense of direction and accomplishment right now.

Closing the EP is the title track, ‘Core Discord’, complete with distorted vocals, robotic and glitchy sounds which combine with the disjointed beats to produce a mesmerising and hypnotic finale which rounds off the EP perfectly. 

Support for North Satellite ‘A Rising Sign’ EP came from Francois K, Tim Sweeney, Luke Solomon, Eric Duncan, Horse Meat Disco, Honey Soundsystem, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Will Saul, Danielle Moore (Crazy P), Bill Brewster, and Fred Everything, amongst others.

CB90 Dance Recordings land their second release to the catalogue with one of Berlin's rising stars Anthony Georges Patrice. We were blown away with the class and oozing raw style from both tracks on this EP. Poor Pitch Discrimination is bursting with raw bass energy and tough New York style drums that maintain a pace throughout. This is then balanced with a melodic sweetness that captivates your ear with hypnotic subtle changes in the background. On the B side is Neshama - with a skipping rhythm groove, tense emotional strings & pads that hold you in the air and constantly fill you with warm emotion and a sense of lifting off. Anthony has been building a serious wealth of music on labels like Lossless, Goldmin Music, Dance Artifakts, Frau Blau and many more. We are delighted to have him join the CB90 collective.

"Recreated Silence" was originally intended to be Dub Taylor’s second album. Since Alex Krüger had just released his Dub Techno debut, the "Forms And Figures" album on Raum…musik in early 2001 and another LP "Detect" was already planned to be released in autumn that same year via Forcetracks, seven of the album tracks had been put out under the Shura moniker on the "3b" Label in summer 2001. It often happens that an unfamiliar name gets overlooked even though it most likely would have reached a wider audience with a bigger name on it. So unfortunately this happened here too. While the two Dub Taylor albums both became genre classics for many in the Dub House/Dub Techno field, though the tracks of the double vinyl were un-mistakenly unique Dub Taylor trademark beauties of that era, the Shura album stayed completely under the radar.
 
What fascinates us the most is, how much "Recreated Silence" is the perfect connection between "Forms And Figures" and "Detect". There's the more dirty, atmospheric and experimental approach of the debut paired with the tools, loops and the minimalism of the Forcetracks LP. If you ask the man himself, he'll tell you that even after twenty years this still is his favourite of the three Dub Taylor albums in 2001. There was also a fourth, yet unreleased album, recorded in 2001 that goes beyond the Detect-vibe. But that’s a different story and very likely to be released here in the future.
 
For the reissue we've chosen to swap the original vocal version of "Alone" with its formerly unreleased instrumental mix. The Recreated Silence sessions also included three more unknown tracks of which we felt the spooky ambient tune "Shellac" to blend in perfectly with the other seven tunes from the original "3b" release.
 
So here it is again, freshly remastered, dubby, dirty and for the first time available digital. We really hope you like it as much as we do.
