When we talk about contemporary jungle and hardcore, it's likely Coco Bryce's name will pop up. Yes, he might be a fresher name on the scene but the Breda-based producer, real name Yoël Bego, first cut his teeth over two decades ago around his home town in the Southern area of The Netherlands.

After buying his first pair of turntables back in '95 and learning to mix, he began playing Breakbeat and gabber parties before turning his attention to production in the late 90s.

His debut vinyl release came out in the millennium but it wasn't until around 2009 that he put his foot on the gas and started churning out stellar release after stellar release. Now boasting over 100 albums and EPs in his discography, Coco Bryce shows absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

His releases have come via the likes Lobster Theremin, Critical Music, Rupture and Fresh 86, to name but a few, as well as his growing empire of labels, MYOR, MYOR Massiv, Faces Of Bass, Ill Behaviour and Diamond Life.

Next up he's joining forces with Breaka for a split EP on TWLVZ, the sister label of Dr Dubplate's ec2a imprint, which will land on 23rd September. In celebration of the release, titled Want U, we got Yoël on board for our flagship mix series. Featuring a ton off his own music, including a few unreleased nuggets, and tracks from friends and contemporaries, the mix is pacey and high-octane but laced with dreamy, melodic atmospheres from start to finish...

Sometimes there are moments and sets in London clubland where the stars align, certain artists are in the building and the energy is LOOSE.

Skee Mask at the HVYWGHT 4th Birthday back in February was one of those moments.

Following on from a South London Digital Mystikz homecoming at peak time to a fever pitch Brixton Electric. Playing a dubstep party for the first time, alongside legends of the scene - Skee Mask proceeded to play one of the hardest sets we’ve ever seen, effortlessly mixing classic grime into dubstep into techno into breaks and beyond.

A flurry of MC’s were in the wings, none of whom were booked to host the set but had no choice but to jump on. The energy was infectious - Flowdan B2B Trim B2B Chunky B2B SP:MC over Skee Mask on the Sinai Soundsystem. We can guarantee you will never get this combination of artists on a set EVER again.

During a pandemic, the concept of a DJ mix takes on a different meaning. Firstly, you know the listener is probably going to be sat at home, rather than at a pre-drinks or afterparty with a group of mates, and most likely on their own. On the other hand, music is one thing helping many through what is an anxiety-inducing time for all of us, and you could say that mixes are needed more than ever. London-based producer @breakaleeds knows what he’s doing when it comes to putting together a mix. A Reprezent Radio resident, the DJ and producer is – as his name might suggest – all about the breaks. As well as dropping releases on Scuffed Recordings, Mad Decent and Instinct, while recently featuring on R&S’s ‘In Order To Care’ compilation raising money for the NHS, Breaka recently started his own label, a destination for self-releases. The three-track ‘Breaka002’ is dropping tomorrow (listen to ‘Steeze Flex’ which we premiered recently), which finds Breaka sampling samba and Afro-Cuban beats among a shedload of breaks. “It’s interesting thinking what a DJ mix really means these days, haha,” Breaka says of his Dummy Mix, “but with home/park listening in mind, I’ve made this mix in a bit of a melting pot of different sounds. Most tracks are personal faves from close friends who are moving in directions I’ve been trying to explore in my own production during lockdown.”
