Coming out of South London via Sheffield, Breaker Breaker is a fledgling project headed up by Haider Masroor a.k.a DS1. Having been releasing music since 2008 across various aliases Haider’s new project is a platform from which he intends to release material from both new and established artists covering left of centre strains of floor focused House and Techno.
In to inaugurate the project is a new artist also based in South London Ross From Friends. Taking lofi building blocks full of crackle and character and running them through his sampler Ross From Friends forms his own style of rough edged Techno that hits hard whilst carrying a distinctive sense of soul.
‘Golf School’ kicks things off with burnt out percussion and offkilter fills that propel a tape driven guitar and Rhodes combo before ‘Ridley Schöttt’ blooms behind a hustling bit crushed riff that gathers menacing chords and frazzled percussion.
‘.biz’ then caps the EP off with a circling piano riff and astutely plotted whacks and samples that pepper a Delroy Edwards esque groove bringing a rich and varied package to a close the first of many diamonds on Breaker Breaker.

RGL is the moniker of Tokyo based producer Rigly Chang, who’s also part of the Tokyo based Cosmopolyphonic collective. His affinity for intimate dance music brings soft textures and moods that stretch into the listener, bringing a new kind of warmth to the club.

RGL - Wade

Utilising a meld of hardware, old tape recorders and original instrumentation - the Bristol based producer readies the inaugural release on this newly formed alias and in doing so presents the aptly titled ‘First Step’. 

Slotting in neatly with the Breaker Breaker catalogue, the First Step EP smothers burly drums with woozy sampling that work together to build a trippy, floor-ready sound. ‘Temptation’ kicks things off with a gritty shuffle that propels playful Funk samples before ‘Day One And Two’ sets a loose-limbed plod under thick, palpable synth lines. 

Fluorescent then sets rhodes keys flicking out with a certain Floating Points-esque flair and pushed on by a driving plod that rounds of a memorable set of dancefloor moments.

The sound of '2020' is new jazz and old funk with an electronic city pace, brought to you by duo The Colours That Rise. Made up of multi-instrumentalists and producers Simeon Jones and Nathanael Williams, their '2020' EP is a confident guide through future sounds and past histories from a time yet to come. 

Created using analogue synths and acoustic instruments, the 4 track EP works as the score to a yet to be created animation. Nathanael's background is creating soundtracks for films, while Simeon plays with UK jazz prophets Yussef Kamaal and featured on Henry Wu’s ‘Negotiate’ 12”. 

'2020' is an experimental electronic voyage that emerges from the ambient and arrives on the dance floor.

Inspired by their own experiences of finding peace in a sleepless city, the trio combines electronic production, live instrumentation, and vocals, into a wistfully melancholic yet vibrant debut release.

On July 31st rising DJ/producer Haider presents the ‘Endless Clouds’ EP on his own label Breaker Breaker, where pristine future electro meets high tech funk and raw, jacking house. This new release follows praise from a wide selection of world-class DJs and media for his past 12”s, not to mention achievements as label owner, party promoter, canny early spotter of talent and general proactive instigator. 

Now based in Berlin but originally from Sheffield via a stint in London, there’s a commonality throughout all of Haider Masroor’s music that links both thematically and geographically. His productions recall both Steel City bleep and its distant younger cousin bassline, using only sparse elements, with beats and bass at the fore, to deadly effect. London is audible too via the spiky energy of grime and the swinging shuffle of UK funky, and so is Berlin, evident in the sleek sheen and efficient precision. 

On ‘Maracuja’ lush pads, pitched-up vocal snippets, bleeps and proper electro beats ride atop a deep, purring bassline that unfurls like giant waves, with sub bass punctuation adding further hefty depth. 

The bouncy, punchy beats and pristine gleam of ‘I Came To Destroy’ are somewhere between celestial Miami bass and the aquatic grooves of Drexciya, again propelled by gigantic slo-mo bass tones. 

A modern take on the cut-up samples of 90s house, on ‘Grove Street’ Haider mixes elements of classic French touch, Chicago rawness and low fi outsider grit, to create something very enticing indeed.

Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope pushing dream pop. 

“Download Spirit” is their most ambitious project yet, recorded through lockdown and featuring an array of vibes from the lo-fi dreamy laidback “Fever Dream Kids” to the punchy existential “ Truly Being Alive” and soft and vulnerable “In Poly Amber” that make for an emotional and vibrant journey.
