Folk, meet Ambient. Ambient, meet Folk. 

I found an Irish bagpipe piece by Liam Walsh, which was recorded in 1926 (https://archive.org/details/LiamWalshTheJobofJourneywork). 

The recording starts, gradually, granular treatment is added, until the bagpipe sounds like an etheral voice. New tracks are introduced, some pianos here, some bass there, an additional pad comes and goes. 

Stuff used: Mikron Cascade FX, the tapes01 ensemble for Kontakt, SQ80 V, Augmented Voices, and, of course, the bagpipe work of Liam Walsh. I wonder what he'd say that his recording has been used 97 years later.

The Assignment: Combine two seemingly different genres.

Step 1: The concept of “math house,” a combination of genres, came out of a conversation between friends Jimmy Lem (a Junto member) and tetkik ve tedavi. Consider what “math house” might sound like.

Step 2: Combine two genres of your own choosing. Perhaps “math” and “house,” or other ones entirely.

Step 3: Record a track resulting from the combination of genres you selected in Step 2.

“I am blessed to live by the sea. This informs a lot of my ‘ku. I also try to write honestly about my struggles with depression. Not sure how successful I am on that topic. It’s hard. The nature poems come easier. I began writing haiku about four years ago. I try to write daily, giving myself Sundays & holidays off. ‘Ku is a kind of discipline for me—much like a daily walk or yoga practice. Haiku quite simply saved my life.”
