Decided to challenge myself by making a tune using only the sounds from the Smithsonian's "Encyclopaedia of Life" recordings. So everything you hear was made purely from the source files - a collection of field recordings of animal sounds. No other sound sources were used. All done in Maschine/Cubase, with a little Kaoss Pad thrown in at the end for good measure.

As Mr Beatnick we’ve definitely learned a thing or two from the multi talented Londoner Nick Wilson. Whether as DJ, producer, radio host, journalist or crate-digger, Wilson operates with an extremely dedicated level of knowledge and expertise. One of the UK’s true musical diamonds in the rough, and one of a few Hip-Hop producers to make a successful transition to House and Techno with ease, bringing along all that signature swing, shuffle and vinyl crackle along for the ride. Anyway, you know all about this guy by now.

As of November 6th ‘label boss’ is the latest string to be added to his illustrious bow with the launch of Mythstery Records. The debut release ‘Instant Bull’ comes from Genevan producer Breakplus. A good friend of Wilson’s and occasional collaborator, the pair recorded a beats 12″ under the name Thieves Of Time back in 2005. The mini-album ‘Instant Bull’ is a celebration of all things Anatolian Rock, described as a “hazy ride balancing mellow grooves for home listening with a trio of left-side club cuts – from heady psych rock to Turkish disco”. This appears to be the first fully fledged release from Breakplus, who has previously appeared on a number of compilations, but on the merit of this record we look forward to hearing much more.

Hyp 248 is one for the crate-diggers: brimming with obscure samples, rare grooves and undiscovered favourites…

Japanese Manga & Anime Soundtrack from 70s & 80s Mix for STW - Aug 2020

MIMS is excited to premiere a brilliant Breakplus remix of "Luxette" by Mr Beatnick, a highlight from his recent 'Honeycomb' album on Mythstery Records.

At MIMS we were big fans of 'Honeycomb', released this summer. Following its release, Mr Beatnick has had an impressive and varied group of friends tackle the same songs, including fellow MIMS faves Hector Plimmer, Ikonika, and Om Unit. 

One of favourite remixes though, had to be from fellow Mythstery signing Breakplus, who delivers a lush live instrument replay of Luxette, augmented with the reeds of Ben Hadwen (Emanative, Ibibio Sound Machine), that accentuates the original's broken rhythm. 

Check out the full release on 18th December, and in the meantime, enjoy the Breakplus remix of Luxette.
