I wrote 'The Chant' a few months ago when I was feeling as though I was being ambushed by a number of pretty intense situations. As I wrote, the song became less about me, and more about those who feel as thought they don't have a voice. We all have times when life is pretty awful and I hope that you have someone in your life that is prepared to stand and fight for you in those moments. 

This song was spontaneously recorded in a garage of a good friend in Tennant Creek. I recently spent some time working out in the desert, and had a fair bit of time to write and workshop some new music. Tim Webb added the bass, electric guitar and organ sounds which I love. I'd love to hear your thoughts. This is a basic recording at the moment and I'm going to be adding harmonies to it soon.

I wrote this song while doing community arts work in the remote town of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. While I was there, I experienced a number of incredibly powerful dust storms. There was something mystical about these dust storms and after a number of discussions with some local, spiritual Indigenous women, I discovered that these dust storms carry bad luck. As I watched the next dust storm roll in over the desert horizon, I started thinking about whether there was anyone in the town who, instead of seeing the dust storm as bad luck, were eagerly awaiting the storm to hit, hoping it would carry them away...

The Chant tells the story of a community being ambushed by a common enemy, and the sacrifice that community makes each day in effort to war off the enemy. If only the community banded together as a force, rather than wishing for someone...anyone else to fight their battles for them...

Closer explores the fear of commitment in a relationship, and the battle between desiring love and affection, with the fear of being vulnerable and overwhelmed. In a gentle, acoustic way, the song reveals that although love is kind and sacred, it can also be blind and full of danger.

Let Go is the most stripped back song on the EP. I wrote it while devising a contemporary theatre performance with some fellow artists on the topic of letting go and holding on, to people, experiences, emotions and fears in our lives. It discusses the battle when you know that change is coming and you need to let go of the person or the memory, even if you don't want to. It also explores the vulnerability that this brings.

Into Thin Air was written after a month long trek in the Himalayas. Beginning the trek suffering intense anxiety, four weeks of mountain therapy resulted in peace and tranquility. This version of the song was recorded for Balcony TV, which Brea was nominated an Editor's Choice Award for.

Brea's first song from her latest release 'Into Thin Air' talks of her journey through the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal's Himalayas. 

Featuring Gábor Hartyáni on the cello, the ethereal vocals and sounds will leave you feeling like you're standing upon the mountain top.

Take Me Home is an upbeat acoustic folk song about finding a home with the people you love. This particular recording was made in Appenzell, Switzerland at a live living room concert. Featuring Poppy Rose and Tess Robertson on backing vocals, Gabriel Imhoff on cajon and recorded by Lorenz Schaller, this recording captures the energy and intimacy of a live performance.

Brea's style fuses ethereal vocals with folk rhythms and bluesy tones. Her voice is the centre-piece of her songs, reaching from rich depths, to angelic heights, stirring the hearts of her listeners. Brea Robertson released her debut EP 'From the Dust' in 2015. She has been featured on radio stations across Australia, supported legendary Donavon Frankenreiter on his 2015 Australian tour and has been on festival bills alongside John Butler, Vance Joy, Temper Trap and Empire of the Sun including Maleny Music Festival, Desert Harmony Festival and The Village Festival within Falls Festival. She has performed as part of Sofar Sounds events and has been featured on Balcony TV as an editor's choice. For the past two years Brea has been based in Berlin, busking, touring Europe, playing at festivals (such as Edinburgh Fringe and Kattegat Festival (NL)), and recording her brand new EP 'Hillcrest to Here' which tells the stories of love, being far from home and exploring new parts of the world.
