Following up on the success of his critically acclaimed Breez Deez Treez, New York MC Breez Evahflowin is out to demonstrate he’s back for good, offering a new “free-p” of music to show his gratitude to the fans, critics, and blogs who helped make his latest album such a positive success.

    Breez Treez Free is a free downloadable EP, featuring the original DJ Static premixes of When You Fall and I Failed. As founding members of the underground Stronghold rap collective, Breez and DJ Static bring us back to the beginnings – before the accomplished battle MC took a hiatus in the mountains of North Carolina to pen Breez Deez Treez.

    Giving listeners a taste of both past and future, the free download also features exclusive Daveytree remixes of Money Don’t Love Me, Tryin To Hold On and Matador, originally released on the Breez Evahflowin and Dirt. E. Dutch collaboration Troublemakers.

    Rounding out the free offering is a bonus freestyle track, which finds Breez back in “Loud-ass Midtown Manhattan,” reflecting on the creation of Breez Deez Treez and looking toward the future. Featuring shout-outs to all the people who made the CD possible, from Bay Area producer Deezlee and MCs Dojah and Symphonic, to longtime friends and Harlem-based Swave Sevah and Ike P. Breez also hints at things to come with a forthcoming new project in collaboration with producer Daveytree expected to be released in Fall 2010 on Domination Recordings.

Throughout the years music has always been a coping method for men dealing with the consistent trauma of living while black. In my youth there was no shortage of strong Black voices to validate my feelings and assure me that I wasn't crazy and that this is all wrong. 
This song, produced by long time collaborator Krohme, is an attempt to synthesize all that I appreciated about that era. It's a bit louder and direct than my normal delivery, I allowed the emotion to flow first and the lyricism to follow.

Why I Do - Accapella

A member of the Stronghold underground rap collective, MC Breez Evahflowin (born Enrique DaSilva) was a leading force in the New York, as well as national, battle rap scenes during the late '90s. Among several other achievements, he was crowned the national grand champion of the famed Blaze Battle competition in 1999. While his participation in battles waned, he aligned himself with the independent rap movement that was beginning to take shape during that same time period. During his freestyle rap days, he was a part of various local groups that put out vinyl and even released his own solo 12", "Forsaken," in 1996, which appeared on the BBE Music compilation Hip-Hop Forever (1998) by DJ/producer Kenny Dope. In the early 2000s, Breez recorded many singles and 12"s for an assortment of different indie labels, including the Boston-based Detonator Records, as well as contributing a slew of guest appearances. Despite not having much material to his name, he was able to work with several A-list underground rap artists, like Vast Aire and the Molemen. Breez offered the Fly EP on Just Be Records in 2003, but released his first proper full-length, Troublemakers, collaborating exclusively with producer Dirt E. Dutch, on Little Ax in 2008.
