I met producer Kerit at a Tempelhofer Feld jam session and invited her over to hang. I found out that she is a rapper and videographer and we watched hip hop music videos for hours. I showed her a sample I had made from remixing “Say My Name” by Destiny’s Child. I gave her the sample and this badass, old-school sounding beat overlayed with Kimberlé Crenshaw's voice is what she gave back.

Welcome to the even breezier summer remix version of the instant classic "Queer POC"! I had to create a song that recognized challenges that come with queer and BIPOC identities. Franco-Norwegian disco-dub producer, Loud Lemons, showed enthusiasm for the track. He loved the lyrics about the challenges, pride, and strength of queer POC. “We've been collaborating for a long time and I was very proud and happy to be invited to do a dub version of this track.” With the original track “Queer POC” there was an urgency and an intensity and with the remix there is a flow, a chill vibe energy.

Queer POC (Loud Lemons Remix)

Breezy is releasing the first single “Glittery ft. Aka Kelzz” from the soundtrack for the Berlin-based audio series DESIRE (Original Soundtrack zur WDR Hörspielserie). DESIRE is releasing episodes throughout September on WDR. The soundtrack by artist/producer Breezy is graced by Berlin-based artists including the flows of femme rapper Caxxianne, a “self proclaimed peoplelutionist” by way of Cayman Islands and Jamaica, the queer Mexican singer-songwriter Antonio Herrera whose sound mixes 90’s R&B/Soul with new wave Electronica, and the soulful airy R&B vocals of Black nonbinary artist Aka Kelzz originating from the UK.

“Glittery,” featuring Black nonbinary artist Aka Kelzz is dreamy and electric. The way Breezy’s commanding rap verses contrast with Kelzz’s soulful and airy choruses is reminiscent of the now classic and colorful hip hop of the late 90s/early 2000s, like Aaliyah & Timbaland’s “Are You That Somebody?” but with a fresh and modern twist.

The “Glittery ft. Aka Kelzz” release on 1 September is when the journey begins. There will be a second single release on 15 September and the 29 September album release will be followed by a performance featuring the artists and poets on the album also on 29 September at Oyoun in Berlin.

The second single released from DESIRE (Original Soundtrack zur WDR Hörspielserie), “Manifesto” featuring the queer Mexican singer-songwriter Antonio Herrera, is spatial electronic R&B that journeys from hauntingly atmospheric sound and lyrics to a ballroom-inspired climax one can vogue to; a 4-on-the-floor anthem of self love.

In December ‘22, Tia created a multimedia exhibit with Polaroid photos and an audio installation curated from 31 interviews with queer sex workers from various backgrounds. With an idea of creating a soundtrack for a fictional audio series focused on the lives of queer sex workers, Tia shared the archive of interviews and her ideas for the episodes of the audio series and Breezy worked with the featured artists to translate the stories, philosophies, and perspectives into electronic R&B, hip hop, and dance-punk.

Both the DESIRE series and soundtrack invite the non-sex worker audience to immerse themselves in the world of LGBTQIA sex workers, listen to voices that remain too often unheard, and question assumptions about sex work and queerness. The release of the audio series and soundtrack will culminate in a live concert to support sex worker organizations at Oyoun in Berlin on 29 September. Soundtrack releases on 29 September across all digital streaming platforms. Audio series releases 15 September on 1live and is available in the ARD media library.

It’s fitting that Breezy has released her second self-produced hip hop project, MuLATTO MADness, on Halloween. The sequel to last year’s melancholic Tragic Mulatto EP, this recent five-track mini album narrates the experience of living as a queer mulatto woman in times of heightened racial and gender violence...conditions for madness. The cunning of this release is that with the musicality of the hooks and the catchiness of the lyrics, Breezy is able to lay weighty themes on ears that can’t help but bob and weave to the rhythm of her beats. 

The first track,“LOOKin for” is like driving on the freeway in summer sunshine with the windows rolled down. The gooey sunset synths and R&B vocal mask the air of uncertainty and instability in this opening track. “abOUT me (feat. Loud Lemons)” marks the descent within the narrative slope of MuLATTO MADness. While “LOOKin for” is drifting untethered, “abOUT me (feat. Loud Lemons)” slows down, allowing space to grapple with an intersectional identity. The anguish is punctuated by raspy baritone saxophone from French-Norwegian musician, Loud Lemons. The climax of the album is “male FRAGILITY,” a confrontational track that serves as a chance in new school hip hop for women to release pent-up aggression from the toxic masculinity of early 2000s hip hop. Breezy holds nothing back on the fourth track, “FREE Dee,” which tells the story of former rapper/tv host, Dee Barnes, and the aftermath of being assaulted by Dr. Dre in 1991. “an IsLAND,” is the song takes us out to sea, with the somber piano melody from Nina Simone’s, “Plain Gold Ring” as the lifeline. In the final seconds, Breezy loses her mind as her vocal shorts out and washes away. 

Breezy will be performing tracks from MuLATTO MADness at the queer-fem hip hop party BERRIES Berlin and in November, doing a set with DJ/producer, Freak A. Della, at the Afro-futuristic queer-fem festival, Empower Music Fest. MuLATTO MADness is now available on all digital platforms including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, as well as Soundcloud and Bandcamp for free streaming.

FREE Dee

If Audre Lorde was a rapper, Breezy would be the embodiment because their hip hop takes on topics like racial identity, gender politics, and queerness. Breezy represents the fluidity in the gray area between “man” and “woman” or “Black” and “white.”
