HgB-17: Various Artists - Refraction of Light (Digital Compilation)

Refraction of Light encompasses a swarm of sonic apparitions from 17 geographically linked artists. The compilation glides through an array of mesmerizing sounds; from slithering trance and crystalline techno to surrealistic DnB and entrancing electronica. A vast collection of moods spanning dawn to dusk.

The HgB capsule emerges on Amniote Editions on 23rd June. The artwork is designed by Camilla Louisa.

Amniote Editions acknowledges this EP was put together on the land of the Woiwurrung & Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to their elders past, and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.

10% of profits from this compilation will be donated to Black Rainbow, a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Sistergirl and Brotherboy (LGBQTI+SB) organisation in the pursuit of positive health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBQTI+SB*.

Patterns of Perception and Minimal Collective join forces to launch an annual VA project, Future Patterns, that invites both artists and listeners to explore the future of electronic music, and the forces that could shape it.

Available digitally and as a limited edition CD with accompanying 3D animated artwork, the first Future Patterns VA features music from C-Refund (@consumer-refund), DBR (@breezydbr), HOMI (@kiuas), Jasmín (@jasminhoek), Jay Duncan (@drumsofjay), Konduku (@kondukukonduku), Mary Lake (@marylakeworld), Nali (@n_a_li), Nicole (@nicole-popkhadze), Solid Traveller (@solidtraveller), Spekki Webu (@spekkiwebu) & Altjira (@altjiramara), Sunju Hargun (@sunjuhargun) and VC-118A (@mohlao), with 3D visualisation and artwork by Rotterdam-based, Italian-born artist Deborah Mora.

Episode 6 - Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek): Dutch Delights

Netherlands-born musician and graphic designer Rutger Zuydervelt has built a discography containing over 250 releases. It’s an almost unfathomable number which bares testament to his devotion of musical exploration. Having collaborated with many accomplished musicians, including Peter Broderick, Andrea Belfi, Dirk Serries, Gareth Davis, and Michel Banabila, he has explored many styles of music, mostly under the pseudonym Machinefabriek.

For episode 6, Rutger has stitched together an hour of Dutch electronic/experimental music from the last two decades.

Slavic folk, ambient psychedelia, 20th century minimalism and vocal experiments - Polish band Księżyc floats somewhere between, happily resisting simple genre categorization. The surreal and haunting beauty of their music is amplified by the fairy tale inspired lyrics Remek Hanaj has created.

For this episode, Remek has curated an hour of Eastern European 
avant-folk. It displays some of the creative diversity of the region and its relationship with blending traditional and contemporary ideas.

Featuring 6 works performed by Decibel, a new music ensemble based across Victoria and Western Australia. Decibel focus on the integration of acoustic and electronic instruments in chamber music performance, and are leading interpreters of text and graphic notations. Whilst rooted in western art music tradition, they aim to remove stylistic boundaries in their commissioning and performance approaches. ⁣

Off The Edge E9 - Cat Hope: Decibel

Room40 label director Lawrence English takes over the final episode of Off The Edge. As an acclaimed field recorder, composer, curator and sonic philosopher, Lawrence is always bringing forth interesting ideas about the nature of listening and our relationship with sound. The mix he's presented is no different - an hour of deep music based on the theme of radio broadcast and its cultural significance throughout its existence. It's as if you're slowly drifting through a smokey, noisy time portal, discovering long dissolved radio waves.

"Over the past 6 months I have maintained something of an odd relationship with radio, especially shortwave. I have started to become interested not just in the idea of this constant flow of sound across so many spectrum, and the fact that the sound travels in ways that are unexpected and is reliant on so many extraneous factors, but also with the idea that it is often being largely undocumented. It exists just for the moment and then is lost in the sweet of new signals. I started to research old radio archival websites and various other outlets that feature recordings made from stations that are long vanished. They hold a certain cultural value and curatorial perspective that are unique to those times and places. This mix is a reflection on music streaming forth, not just from such stations, but also from artists calling on their fading, wavering signals."
