Its the compulsion for boys and girls to advertise the perfect identity. You too can Be A Sensation!

Inspired by Wendy Carlos' Switched on Bach album and Gil Trythall's Switched on Nashville (Country Moog), this album will feature songs from or adjacent to the Goner Records catalog, done with the voices of analog and modular synthesizers.

Copland is a deconstructive reflection on Aaron Copland's Rodeo Ballet, one of my favorite pieces of modern American music. It's symbolism, to me, is buried in an intimate, romantic gesture, a cultural past-time, a time-machine, and being coddled by an imaginary, benevolent reality. I recorded the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's 1994 version of Hoe-Down, from Rodeo, because it was particularly energetic and shrewd. Plus the orchestra's director around that time was really into Gershwin, Barber, and Stravinsky. The recording I fed through a Tascam 414 mkii four-track tape recorder, and then through an interesting little black box called the Morphagene by Make Noise Music, that emulates the workflow of the early tape manipulators à la Louis & Bebe Barron, Halim El-Dahb, Delia Derbyshire and many more, of course. In fact, Make Noise made a previous model called the Phonogene. In the early 50s Pierre Schaeffer built three different models of what he called the Phonogène, as well as a similar instrument called the Morphophone, all of which created sound and music using tape manipulation. I urge you to clear a space to sit or rest peacefully for 20 minutes, or perhaps perform a physical task that affords you the pleasure of listening to music at the same time, without a doubt wear quality headphones, and enjoy.
