NYアンダーグラウンド・ディスコ〜ハウス・シーンにおける最重要人物、Eric Duncan（エリック・ダンカン）。
DJ Harvey以降のワイルドなミクスチャーセンスを体現できる数少ない本物のDJの一人。
Thomas Bullockとのレジェンダリー・オルナタティヴ・ディスコデュオ「Rub N Tug」としても世界中で活躍している。
 
1990年代中期にNYマンハッタンのダウンタウンでDJ活動を開始。1996年に、プロスケーターのRick HowardとMike Carroll、ハリウッド映画監督のSpike Jonze（当時はビデオディレクター）、そしてRickの妻であるMegan Baltimoreの4人によって1993年にカリフォルニアで設立された、スーパースター揃いのスケートボードカンパニー「Girl Skateboards」の超名作ビデオ『MOUSE』の音楽をキュレート。
 
その後、伝説のDJクルー「Wicked」の元メンバーにして、DJ Harveyとのユニット「Map of Africa」でも知られる奇才、Thomas Bullockと「Rub N Tug」を結成。HARDCORE partyを繰り広げ、NYのアンダーグラウンドなレフトフィールド、ディスコ・シーンを形成。2005年にベルギーのEskimo Recordingsからリリースした『Rub N Tug presents Campfire』では、ハウス、ディスコ、ロック、エレクトロなどジャンルを超えて、彼ら自身のパーティーのグルーヴを凝縮。”ミックスCDの金字塔”として今も称賛されている本作により、DJ／パーティーコレクティブとして世界的な評価を決定的なものにした。
 
2006年にLiv Spencerと「Still Going」をスタートしてDFA Recordsよりシングルリリース。さらに、Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips)との「The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks」では、強烈なディスコダブやスローモなアシッドエレクトロ・チューンをGolf Channelよりリリース。2015年にはNYの盟友Justin Vandervolgen (My Rules, TBD, !!!)とラギッドなアナログマシーンミュージック・プロジェクト「Happy Family」を始動して、303使いが印象的なアシッドハウスやレイヴィーなシンセリフが鮮烈なダンスナンバーをドロップ。2016年に本名「Eric Duncan」名義では初となるオリジナルソロ作品を発表。80'sイタロディスコムードやバレアリックなエッセンスを絶妙に散りばめたニューディスコ・トラックに、イタリアの重鎮Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigiの黄金コンビがコズミックな中毒性の高いリミックスで華を添えた。
 
ソロ名義「Eric Duncan aka Dr. Dunks」では、オリジナル／リエディット共に多数の傑作をリリース。また、ソロおよびRub N Tugなどのコラボで、Beastie Boys、Grace Jones、Cold Play、Roxy Music、Bryan Ferry、Robbie Williams、Laid Back、Groove Armada、LCD Soundsystem、Chk Chk Chk、Lindstrøm、Todd Terje、Daniele Baldelli、Locussolusら数多くのリミックスも手がけている。
 
2005年の「Stussy Major Blade Tour」では、Michael K (Gimme 5)、Paul T (Sarcastic)らと全国4都市を回り、2013年には全国9都市に及ぶ「Rub N Tug Japan Tour」を敢行。2015年の東京ファッションウィークに開催された「Know Wave Tokyo Party」では、カリスマスケーターAlex Olsonらと来日出演。2017年に青山で行われたCalvin Kleinのエクスクルーシヴ・パーティーでは、Nina KravizやJamie xx、James Murphyらと共にDJ参加するなど、音楽やアート、ファッション、ストリート・シーンと深い関わりを持っている。ここ日本でも絶大な人気を誇るEric Duncan、2019年以来3年ぶりとなる来日がいよいよ実現する。

2014 release on Soul Clap Records. I put this out on Soul Clap's latest compilation (at the time) called "Dancing On The Charles Volume 2". 

The label has a release page for the compilation and the track is there, but it's greyed out) so you can't play it. Which sucks...I think that's just because it's not available in the US, for whatever reason, I'm not quite sure. So I'm not really getting much traction with it. Figured I'd put it up on my own page. But I don't have nearly the reach that the label does so I guess I'm SOL with getting this track heard... What can I do?

This is a track I made back in 2013 (or earlier) that was included on Soul Clap Presents: Dancing on the Charles, Vol. 2. Boston-based production and DJ Duo  Soul Clap used to throw parties on the banks of the River Charles some years back. They decided to start putting out a compilation series of local Boston artists, in support of the parties and I was asked to contribute. This track was my offering. It did pretty well and was met with critical acclaim. However, it appears that the track is only available in Europe and maybe a few other places at the present time (not the US) for whatever reason. Although I am now just seeing it available on Apple Music if you'd like to support. Thanks.

Motor City Drum Ensemble - Essential Mix 2018-12-15

The night I made this track here, entitled Tropic Of Acid, I recall being totally enamored and full of a sense of wonder and inspiration from having just read Henry Miller‘s eponymous Tropic of Cancer, during a heat wave in the preceding days. Miller’s beautiful yet formidable prose seemed to dance right off of the pages and leap directly into my eagerly awaiting eyes to be at once dissected, and then my mind, wholly transfixed. I had just met a beautiful new friend and we were in those first couple of days of getting to know one another. She was so lovely...Such calm emanating from her. So there was that energy coupled with some really dynamite MDMA from The Netherlands, and a little 2CB from some pals at MIT, which had me, shall we say, open to the universe’s many possibilities and scenarios that evening. 

I think we first stumbled into my makeshift recording studio sometime after 10 PM after a few glasses of Shiraz(?) and conversation with the intent of simply giving her a quick tour, and lay of the land so to speak. Quite possibly to show off a little too, since my inhibitions were sufficiently subdued by now. This evolved into me playing her some of the music I had been working on recently. And then, all of a sudden, almost as if I were communing with a higher power - this music and eventually lyrics too, began to disembogue through me. I was but merely its conduit and all manner of ideas began to flow inexhaustibly and with hardly any real effort at all! That doesn't usually happen that way. It went on for hours.  I don’t think we left the studio until almost 7 o’clock the following morning except to use the bathroom of course. I was still a little bit high so was trying not to act overly excited about what I had achieved or what had essentially, gushed through me, rather. Part of me was worried I might have acted a fool, but that soon passed as she took my hand in hers, and planted a soft, thoughtful and purposeful kiss on my lips. She had dug it, too. I do know that there was a definite feeling that something almost supernatural, or omniscient had happened and as I said, I was merely a vessel for some higher being, perhaps. The music needed to come out, threw me, for whatever reason, and it did. She felt something too. It was obvious. We then sat outback around the patio table and listened back to the recording on a  little Bluetooth speaker to our collective amusement and enchantment.

 I still haven’t gone back to finish the track even after all these years later but, I don’t think it really needs much more other than a proper mix in a good studio by a proper mix engineer and then of course mastering would be nice. I had thought about re-cutting the vocal but I don’t know if it’s necessary. Another idea was to have a female vocal double my part. Thought that might be an interesting way to interpret it. In case anyone is curious as to how I arrived at the title for the track - remember Henry Miller's impact on me at that time but instead of "Cancer', I substituted 'Acid'. This was in part to the fact that the 2CB (which closely resembles LSD) I had taken in conjunction with the MDMA that night lent itself to a more controlled Acid-like trip. Most likely a synergistic effect of taking them in tandem. Oh and 'Acid' is also a nod to the Roland 303 Bassline generator I used on the track which inspired the subgenre 'Acid House'. So, double entendre as they say!

 Anyway, please enjoy responsibly. For the company, you keep, the hour at hand and your environment are just as important as the music you select. One has the capacity to ruin the other and vice versa. even with a perfectly good piece of music. Timing is everything, in so many ways.  Enjoy the music!

Tropic Of Acid 4

#THIS TRACK HAS JUST BEEN MADE PUBLIC SINCE I FIRST UPLOADED IT OVER THREE YEARS AGO. HENCE THE LACK OF ACTION/TRACTION. THAT'S OK. I'M A PERFECTIONIST AND I DIDN'T WANT TO POST IT (OR ANYTHING REALLY)UNTIL IT WAS PERFECT BY MY STANDARDS BUT I'M REALIZING IN MY RAPIDLY FLEETING YOUTH THAT THAT DAY MAY NEVER COME, SO MIGHT AS WELL LET THE PEOPLE GET SOME JOY OUT OF IT AS IS. PERHAPS THIS WILL MOTIVATE ME TO ACTUALLY FINISH IT FFS! IMAGINE THAT!?

This track is reminiscent of early to mid 90s Miami Club/House music that was synonymous with labels like Murk, and DJs like Oscar G and Ralph Falcon. If you would've stumbled into club Space back then, it probably would've been just as the sun was starting to come up and once inside, this was the type of sound that pounded your eardrums. The high-quality ecstasy that was freely available certainly seemed to coalesce with this deep, hard yet overtly primal and sexual style. If you were there then you know what I'm talking about. This track is inspired by nights like that, mainly in Miami but also in NY and NJ, too... This type of style was a thing for a minute. Respect to the originators of the sound.
