Futurepast kicks off the new year with  a mix by Amsterdam based DJ The Spy aka Wessel Janssen. 

For this show, he brings a mix that’s very contemporary, with subtle nods to sounds and vibes from the past. It’s a trance-inducing exploration of experimental electro, EBM, and industrial, interspersed with breakbeat rhythms and textured layers of unreleased tracks.

Guided by a clear vision, he reimagines his influences into a bold experimentation. The resulting soundscape is both cinematic and visceral, blending his influences—ranging from the raw energy of Deli Girls to the cinematic tension of Kinzua—into a complex and yet cohesive narrative.

Here's the recording of my set @fusebrussels in the motion room last saturday. Warming up for DJ Storm and with Mala on the line-up downstairs, the aim was to craft a hypnotic, rhythmic trip, exploring the fringes of dubstep and drum'n bass without fully diving in, getting people on their feet but still fresh and ready for the relentless sets that followed.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
I've started on this sample in Febuary 2024 and had some stuff but I had to reset. This project started to began in January of this year and I kept forgetting about it because I didn't know how to continue the process. And then here I am, decided to finish this. It could be a little better in my opinion but for now I'm satisfied. Man, this was kinda a pain to work with. Now then, I have the other project that I've been holding back. I will try to get it done this week.

DaRuff has been making serious waves in the world of 2020's JUNGLE and for good reason! His global sound background and polyrhythms that truly bend your grasp of musical time keeping along with longer songs that lead you on a sonic journey rather than the 80 second sample pack sound clips so many modern 'DnB' producer insist are still songs are why Daruff is the whole package.

'Emotions' is a piano driven think break mind walk that is as easy to settle into as the softest lounger you've ever fallen back into... until the extended breakdown switch up that brings the storm clouds and gloom over which the second half's amens run for cover!

On the flip 'Memory' sets the tone with a mixture of thoughtful sonics including heavily reverbed vocalizations and sparkling bells so high in the register they might as well be glass. Rolling amens flip and fall onto themselves like a cascade of snares flowing from a waterfall.

In both songs DaRuff's soul warming b-lines seal the deal - this is modern atmospheric Jungle that is unlike anything around at the moment, and we're incredibly proud to present the man's latest on TUFF LOVE DUBS as Dubplate #3 of 5 in 'THE PRESTIGE PLATES' series!!!

Brendon Moeller is a boundary-pushing producer whose sound is rooted in dub and techno and incorporates subtle undertones of jazz, shoegaze and afrobeat.

Brendon grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he learned piano and drums, finding particular inspiration in the music of artists such as Fela Kuti, My Bloody Valentine, De La Soul and Kraftwerk.

However, it was not until 1993, when Brendon moved to New York City, that his own individual style began to develop. With NYC as his base, he has worked with several prominent labels and collaborated with artists like Mikey Dread, Speedy J, Mutabaruka and MATRiXXMAN.

With dozens of EPs, singles and albums to his name, Brendon’s love for experimenting with sound has created an endless source of inspiration to continuously self-reflect and advance his music. Brendon is consistently striving to reinvent himself and skillfully influence the dub scene in the process.
