Southerndown depicts the stages of anxiety, or perhaps more precisely, of a panic attack. The stages are presented in a dismembered, non-linear format through the three sections of the song. Musically these sections vary in intensity and tone; the instruments moving from quiet and sombre to heavy and menacing. The song intends to create the feeling of constant change common with anxiety. The post-panic-attack calm, the rising tenseness of the body and the heavy, dark feelings that linger throughout all anxiety. In this, the song provides us with a cathartic release, and we hope it can do the same for others.

Recorded in a mixture of Joe’s Bedroom and Rat Trap studio with Thomas Rees of Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. The track was produced by Joe Haynes and Thomas Rees with additional processing from Gareth Bodman and mastered by Charlie Francis.

Laundrette began life as the bedroom project of Joe Haynes. Soon growing to include Ollie Dixon, Peter Lawrence, Ethan Poole and Ellis Acton-Dyer. Laundrette make music that is hard to categorise. There are elements of punk, folk, shoegaze and electronica but they are never really one or the other. They draw influence from the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Slint and Sufjan Stevens. Contrast is key to Laundrette’s sound, going from whispered vocals to thundering walls of sound, soothing harmonies to jarring angular beats.
