Synthesizing a Synecdoche

This goal of this song was to capture both a choral church music feel while taking the listener on a drug trip. I created the feedback and synth-like sounds at the end of the song by automating feedback through a delay plug-in and then running that feedback through Melodyne. I then rearranged the pitch corrected notes how I pleased to create a more orchestral sound.

The Dealer

This song we were aiming for a less than perfect chaotic performance. We layered the vocals in the end, all spinning in their own directions to convey that.

Black Ice

This is the sloppy rocker of the album. We wanted to capture a sharp contrast between the big rocking noise sections and the clean tremolo parts.

House Of Bones

This song started as just vocals and a looped ukelele, but quickly turned into layers of different guitars. Up until the outro section of this song, most everything was created on guitars, including the bird-like noises around the halfway point.

Just After Dusk

A track with a dark and dystopian outlook yet moments of heart-felt optimism, and open ended conclusion.

Brother

We used a $30 nylon string acoustic guitar from an antique shop hoping to capture the sound of a man down on his luck. We fast forwarded and rewound tape of some old news footage and sampled specific clips we thought appropriate for the content of the song.

Sea Sick Boy

The opening sounds were created on an iPod app. We were aiming for a whimsical feel, but wanted the end of the song to be a beautiful wreck, so I didn't play any of the outro piano solo in the right key and filtered the drums to sound like they are closed out of the room.

The Shipwreck

As the concluding track of the album, my goal with this track was to incorporate many of the colors and textures used throughout the rest of the album. This song is a mixture of everything from real flute and trumpet sounds to synth plug-ins and feedback automation.

Silence The Weapon

The intro to this track is made up of both violin samples and a live stand up bass with a bow. I wanted some ambiguity tonally, without going completely outside the song's framework, to try and represent both the chaos and collective ambitions that make up a bee hive.

Beekeeper's Wife

A music producer and audio engineer. A songwriter, guitar player, and keyboard dabbler. An good feller to hang with. A stellar feller to work with.
