Musical Freedom Radio Episode 13 - Carnage

Toronto has long been the home of the amen break in the Great White North, but rarely has the city fathered a top-level drum & bass icon to call its own. Step in Ram Records badman René Lavice. Last year, his tune "Where My Ladies At" was a quintessential dancefloor crusher and a dark horse candidate for 'Best Use of Cowbell in a Dance Track 2014,' and Lavice has kicked off 2015 on similar form with the highly varied two-track release "The Calling/Freudian" on Ram.

Deep in solitary lockdown, Hamilton has been crafting these next cuts with the meticulous precision. These two tracks present the perfect backdrop for his comeback, presenting him as a veteran artist who effortlessly combines the famed 90s vibe with contemporary production. 

And after the ongoing success of his Schema EP, as well as the huge reception to his release ‘Fire/Be There’, this is a welcome return. 

With pent up aggression and pounding breaks, ‘Feel the Fury’ rolls out first ominously. Cracking high hats and quick-fire percussion adds a layering that helps carry the record’s forward motion. Alongside a bassline that coils, and then lashes out over a plunging drop, you’re thrown between the snap, crack and whip of a hugely intricate composition. Hamilton is back… And he’s here to re-educate you with his unfaltering skillset. 

On the flipside, ‘Track 8’ is an innovative slice of drum & bass which is both fun and drivingly relentless. Bouncing subs, coupled by distorted synths take you through elevated note patterns of gradually building, musical imagery. It’s a steppy riddim, one which doesn’t completely crash on impact but instead is creeping in its intensity. It’s Hamilton at his most diverse, yet again proving the versatility in his craftwork.

With another stunning delivery from Hamilton, 2015 is setting a precedent. One which the producer is sure to ride out into the future.

It’s a rare commodity these days to find both uniqueness and originality in an artist. Divine Elements delivers both, and the Los Angeles-based Drum & Bass production crew does it with serious fire. Not only do they make some intense dancefloor stompers, but they can hit you with a crushing three deck mix or an all out live performance. 
Having been a driving force in Los Angeles’ Drum & Bass since 2003, these guys are deep rooted in one of the U.S.’ top DnB scenes, headlining at some of the city’s best clubs, like Respect, Dim Mak Studios, Avalon, House of Blues, Keyclub and massive events like Beatdown, Legendz and History.  
Today the crew is still holding it down strong as one of the top West Coast producers of dancefloor Drum & Bass.

After winning the ‘Best Newcomer Producer’ at last year’s Drum & Bass Awards, all eyes have been [rightly] fixed on Frankee and his output. His All Four One EP for the juggernaut that is Ram Records placated a lot of people with it’s four tracks of his stylized, tough nut production, but since February he’s been a little quiet – a reason we’re so amped up to be able to present the world with this fresh mixtape. Made in anticipation of Frankee’s imminent return to Farringdon on 17th June, he was pretty openly keen for us to publish it as soon as possible so you guys could hear the dubplates and exclusive bits it contains first.
