"Maroki comes through with a 6-track serotonin boost for our Lost Palms series.

With its title meaning ‘flower’ in Dutch, Bloem EP sees Maroki depart somewhat from the colder acid and electro inflections of most of his previous releases, favouring instead a sunnier vibe and a focus on melody and texture.

‘ICBT1’ embodies this sugar-coated departure perfectly. High-frequency metallic synth plucks form a dynamic melody, making up just one element of a dense soundscape which also compiles a reverb-laden cymbal break, elated flutes and pitched-up vocal chops. The title track, together with ‘Forgot You’ strips things back a little, both driven by an understated deep house beat. ‘Bloem’ sees the EP at its most gentle with bubbly xylophonic tinkles that evoke the hypnotic allure of K-Lone’s ‘Cape Cira’ LP; whilst ‘Forgot You’ gets its melody from the low ends.

‘Forgot Me’ is its moody older sibling and the most minimal track of them all, showcasing the darker underbelly to Maroki’s sound with eerie underwater arpeggios and hollow percussion. This atmosphere sticks around for ‘Why’: an entrancing full-bodied breaks track sure to be closing DJ sets this Summer."

Liverpool lads Zac Fitzsimmons and Tony Burns are two of the most industrious producers in the business, pumping out Matrefakt releases on Shall Not Fade, Edible, Of Unsound Mind, Circus, Trick and their own Attitude to Life label over the past few years. 'Burn' EP, Matrefakt’s third release for Anja Schneider’s Sous Music, finds the pair in characteristic fine form. 
 
The title track hits the ground running, announcing itself with a wallopping kick, tickling hi-hats and a juddering bassline that guides the listener towards a festival-ready confection of hypnotic bleeps and chunky beats. 
 
'Rock' takes on a vaguely tribal flavour with circular drum patterns designed to move hips, snatched vocal samples and delicious guitar licks invoking the funk of millennium-era French touch.
 
They change tack again on 'Crystal', which oscillates between big-room techno and Moroder-esque space disco to dramatic effect. It’s darker than the previous two cuts, perfect for soundtracking early morning journeys inward and again demonstrating Matrefakt’s remarkable range. 
 
Venezuelan-born, Colombian-based producer Confidential Recipe (Rekids) turns in an eyes-down remix of 'Burn', stripping the bassline out of the original to create a more intense afterhours energy.
 
Hot off the back of a recent appearance at Creamfields, Matrefakt’s Watergate debut in March and mixes for Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records and Sarah Story’s Future Dance show on BBC Radio1, Matrefakt are poised for the big time. 
 
Of their latest release on Sous, the duo say, “the label is really becoming a home for us and we are made to feel so welcome by everyone every time. We are also really happy to have Confidential Recipe on the remix for this release, we know Anja is a big fan of what he does and we are too!”
 
Sous is delighted to present the latest package of bonafide bangers from these stars in the making.

Brett Johnson's sound is best known as groovy, bumping house with a hearty dose of techno elements, crafted and mixed in a way that is truly identifiable as his own. Whether DJing or creating music, his wild card is an ability to inject warmth and soul into his electronic sound. The result is an impressive discography filled with unique statements, otherworldly surprises, and undeniable club stompers.

Releasing his first record in 1999 on the now-defunct, Aesoteric Records, Brett has released over 100 records and remixes for some of dance music's best labels. The list includes Classic Music Company, Freerange, Crosstown Rebels,  20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Visionquest, Magnetic, Cynosure, Edible, F-Communications, Seasons; the list goes on and on. Aside from a busy remix schedule, Brett is currently releasing his own music on the labels Classic Music Company, Cynosure Recordings and a select group of labels.

Brett's DJ'ing career has had an amazing trajectory over the past couple of decades. He's traveled the world spreading his musical might to revered nightclubs and festivals like fabric in London,  Panorama Bar in Berlin, Rex Club in Paris, Smart Bar in Chicago, Cocoon and the list goes on. Festivals include Scotland's legendary T In The Park, both the 10 Days Off and Dour festivals in Belgium, Les Rencontres Trans Musicales in France, Solar Festival in the Netherlands, together with tours throughout Asia, Australia and beyond.
