Sometimes it seems life is just full of contradictions except, of course, when it comes to you and me.  But then there’s the society we live in with its control mechanisms in place.  So just set me adrift out in the deep blue sea…just you and me on a deep blue sea.

It is one of those songs that flowed effortlessly from my pen one day.  When I played it for Wayne, he chimed right in with his Takamine.  We recorded it on the first take and had Mike add a bass track later.

Deep Blue Sea

Wayne Warden wrote the song many years ago but with only one verse.  A friend of ours who heard us play the song in Corpus Christi suggested that a second verse be added.  After Wayne wrote a couple of drafts of a second verse, Wayne and I selected the second draft as our new verse.  Hope you enjoy the end result.

Too Much Risk to Take

When Wayne handed me his song, Some Things, back in 2008 he allowed me to augment the song with chords and lyrics.  He was quite pleased with the result and commented that he felt this was his best work to date.  I must say that I agree with his assessment.  True to Wayne’s theme of romantic uncertainties, the song embodies his mixed feelings about a relationship.

Getting out of Houston on the weekend was of paramount importance to me when I lived in Webster, TX supporting the Space Shuttle program with Ford Aerospace.  My friends Rick, Connie, and little Cody were living in Edna at the time so I would hop on down as much as I could.  I tried to convince a friend from the apartment complex to come with me even with a song, but it never materialized.

For my friend, RJ.  Rest in peace, RJ, and thanks for the fine tunes we shared.  Grandfather’s Clock refers to a beautifully written lullaby RJ wrote for his daughter.
The song follows the life of one Robert "RJ" Earl from his beginnings in Corpus Christi, TX to his final resting in George West, TX. In between he visits Florida, Austin, California, Fort Worth, and the Texas hill country. The song integrates harmony vocals, harmonica, acoustic guitar, percussion, and keyboard.

A graying biker rides his motorcycle alone using the California coastline as his backdrop.  He reminisces about his past loves and the mistakes made along the way.  The white picket fence is just a dream.  This is a re-mix of the original recording.

The Country Show Palace, fictitious in name only, sits in a shopping center in south Austin on Manchaca Road.  Our special guest, Roy, emerges from the crowd onto the stage and, backed by a country western band, entertains an array of colorful patrons on one Saturday night.

He stood five-nine or five-ten according to his momma.  He had blue eyes and brown hair typically of medium length.  He was well mannered and loved kittens.  Unfortunately, he never stood a chance.  Rest in peace, sport.
