The artist sits in front of his canvas
Thinks of moments that he wants to last 
Like memories he wants to carry on 
Immortalizing them before they’re gone 

He gets the palate ready for his brush 
Mapping out his every stroke and touch 
He wants the world to see what’s in his mind 
The pain and beauty never lost in time 

And when the brush hits he can feel his soul 
Pour from his fingers losing all control
As passion takes the wheel he steps aside
Now that he can just enjoy the ride 

Taking time to lose my sense of time 
Get lost  in the moments 
I’m gonna own them 
Soon we’ll look back in reflection and
These rose glasses will 
Help me see what I should  
Cause I want it to be that good 

And now his life work sits in front of him 
Smiles widely as he sips his gin 
Overwhelmed with feelings of content 
Of countless hours that he had spent 

The sacrifices that he had to make 
And criticisms that he had to take 
He still knows that deep inside his heart 
That none of that was ever a mistake 

His masterpiece wasn’t the painted scenes 
Or legacy, whatever that word means 
In the end the true masterpiece 
The life he spent living out his dreams
