This track was born out of a personal friendship with author John Major Jenkins and his deep studies on the Mayan Calendar.  I also happened to witness Terence McKenna call him out by name in a mass of hundreds at a lecture we were attending, which turned out to be the origination point of a the next phase of John's career working directly with McKenna (whom, to many of us in the '90s Rave culture, was our generation's Timothy Leary). After its release, this track circulated the Web for some time in association with their work, often tagged as "McKenna Raves Online".

OVNI - Maya Cosmogenesis (E23 vs 2012) [2003]

One of three productions selected for inclusion on the timely, passionate electronic artists' sonic retaliation against the most overt consumption of Executive Power in U.S. Presidential history.  I adopted a tongue-in-cheek moniker (Neoconjob) for this effort, fusing big beats & big ideas, borrowing choice media samples from the likes of Noam Chomsky, Timothy Leary & Eugene McCarthy, amongst others.

One of three productions selected for inclusion on the timely, passionate electronic artists' sonic retaliation against the most overt consumption of Executive Power in U.S. Presidential history.  Read into it politically whatever you will (I'm honestly not sure there is any political orientation to this particular work), the lyrics spin a transformational rant of sorts to be sure.  Created in collaboration with OVNI cohort Devslashnull, and lyricist Chris Mosdell, this piece also brought us together into the studio after a running A/V series of Splatterhead & The Oblivion Brotherhood live performances.

Splatterhead & The Oblivion Brotherhood - Shake the World [2004]

A collaborative effort, Galactus Zeit unified the mighty Space-Kraut hybrid sonic powers of The pHarmanaut, E23, & processed-guitarist Recor. From the liner notes of the _Soundings1_ compilation from which it originates, the teaming was described as "paying microsonic tribute to the icons of mid-1960s Marvel comics".

The selection of this track for the _Soundings1_ compilation effectively made it Ovni's second single from the _Unknowns_ full-length, & the first to be remixed by a peer artist (the exceptional "Good Fences" rework by Equulei).  OVNI performed live as part of the "All Tomorrow's Yesterday's" installation of the series.

A worthy rework by beloved comrades in esoteric beats, Equulei honored the sonic team of E23 & devslashnull with this remix. Guest vocal appearance by Clark Ov Saturn.

OVNI - Good Neighbors (Equulei's Good Fences remix) [2002]

Originally planned as A & B sides of 12" vinyl that was never pressed. Composed in 1997 using the Roland MC-303 Groovebox. For the collaboration each artist created an original track which was then remixed by the other.

Track titles come from the Codex Dresdensis, one of four surviving hieroglyphic books produced by the Yucatecan Maya in Chichén Itzá prior to the Spanish conquest of Mexico. It is considered the oldest book written in the Americas known to historians.

The Divination Pages correspond with the first 23 pages of the Dresden Codex, called so because they were once used to divine the future. There are many enigmatic qualities to the text itself as well as its history and it is one of the most accurate astronomical tables to have ever been discovered.

My personal introduction to the material came simultaneously from two directions - the first, through my friendship with Mayan scholar John Major Jenkins, and second, through my coincidental learning at about the same time of the July 11, 1991 UFO sighting in Mexico City. This sighting was of particular significance because the UFO's appearance was timed and positioned with the Solar Eclipse - a specific moment at which millions of human eyes in the Earth's largest city would be trained to the sky at that location. Filmed, photographed and seen by scientists and common citizens alike, it is possibly the most simultaneously-witnessed UFO sighting in human history.

The divination-UFO interest continued in the linkage at that time within the collaborations between 69Valentine, E23 and devslashnull, the latter forming OVNI (Spanish for "UFO") whose "Extraterresticle Probe" of a 69V track appeared on their first compilation.

devslashnull had been commissioned to create a sound score to a Brian Kane film for AddictiveTV in the UK. He lost the rights to it, and E23 reclaimed some of them with this slightly up-tempo, reworked version.

E23 - eQv 02 | devslashnull - These Melodies (E23 Challenge Response) [2001/2004]

This selection by 69 Valentine was one of the earliest OVNI (devslashnull & E23) collaborations. The raw material was a untitled work by Denver underground bassist and electronic groove producer, 69 Valentine. Using an MC-303 GrooveBox, an Akai sampler, a Juno 6, a TR-505, and a scratchy old bloopers record, the duo turned what had once been a groovin' breaks cut by 69V into something a little more alien.

E23 - eQv 03 | 69 Valentine: untitled (Ovni's Extraterresticle Probe) [1998/2004]

Feelings (E23's Feeling Around In The Dark Mix), written by Recor, culminated from the numerous collaborations occuring amongst student and community members intersecting through the University of Denver's Digital Media program and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver. E23 had been introduced to Recor by The pHarmanaut, and was subsequently invited to participate with them in (what became a one-off) collaborative effort under the Galactus Zeit moniker, resulting in the single "Origin Issue" (on Soundings1, A:D:A:P:T:CD:01, 2003).

As audio files were swapped, and Bacchus reared its glorious head, E23 embarked on a My Bloody Valentine-inspired remix journey of one of the tracks Recor had surfaced. The resulting remix had sufficient heft to be the only remix selected for the 2003 compilation accessory, "Soundings1 Remixes & Live Collaborations" (A:D:A:P:T:CDr:01), but appeared first in the CommTom release the prior year as part of the "eQv" collection.

It's also interesting to note that the resulting live event coordinated around the artists involved what was encapsulated in a short film directed by legendary underground filmmaker Ronnie Cramer, entitled "10 To The Power Of 10" - the same name given to the improvisational electronic jam recorded live at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, July 12, 2003, produced by Trace Reddell, and featuring video accompaniment by An-Ism.

Co-founder of Colorado's longest-running electronic music radio program, Electronic Air on KGNU-FM, E23 (Brian K. Comerford) was also a producer in the first wave of Internet Radio, having co-founded RadioValve.com in the mid-90s. E23 helped spread the evolution of electronic music and rave culture both on the Web and FM airwaves, beginning in an era that pre-dated iTunes, Spotify, or Beatport. He began DJing in 1989 on WPSA-FM at Paul Smith's College, New York, and continued FM broadcast in Texas during 1991-1993 where he also emerged as a club and rave DJ. Re-locating to Colorado in 1993, E23 has continued to perform across the state, the nation, and internationally as both a DJ and live producer. He archives many of his mixes on Mixcloud, selected original tracks on Soundcloud, and music product on Bandcamp.
