Cat's Away

This song dates back to the mid-90s.  It is a fictional story.  Sorry, no dirt.  The fun part in recording this one was using sound samples from a software package called "Fab Four," which includes virtual versions of vintage gear similar to what The Beatles had.  So naturally I went all out Fab with the song arrangement, right down to the slap echo on the Lennon-esque lead vocal.  Enjoy!

A rough mix of a Hollies/ Evie Sands cover. Recorded by Dan Alexander, Vox Pop went into the studio to record this in early 1989 at San Francisco's Coast Recorders. We never really finished it and probably never will, but it's fun to listen to anyway. Donn Spindt on drums, Royse Ader on bass. Tommy Dunbar on guitar and Hammond organ, and Al Chan on guitar and lead vocal. We're all singing backing vocals. Hope that you like it.

Mark Okimoto and me covering a Hall and Oates song just for fun and learning back in 1985. Recorded on an Otari 8-track. Mark played keyboards and sang backing vocals. Al Chan sang lead, backing vocals, and played bass and guitars. Donn Spindt programmed the drum machine.

I spent 15 years in the indie power pop band The Oohs, based in Springfield, Illinois.  We produced three CDs and a handful of tracks on some compilations.  I've been performing (keyboards & vocals) for over 40 years, and have written many songs in the process.  Some of them are going to show up here, old and new, as I record some definitive versions.  All of these recordings are truly solo, done in "one man band" fashion - no other instrumentalists or vocalists were harmed in the process.  Thanks for listening.
