The Chosen One (Single 2023)

This is the first album recorded by the Skagit, Washington Alt Rock band, Scoop Fresh back in the early to mid 1990s. I played drums for them for the first several months or so, but this album features their permanent drummer until the dispersal of the band.

For a long time, the only thing available to get to hear this album was 30+ year old cassette tapes that were wearing out. But, just out of luck, it turns out that the singer still had the original reel-to-reel multitracks that he had to repair and then transfer to digital.

After some discussion, he sent the multitracks to me and I spent the next few weeks cleaning up the digital tracks, and mixing them to sound the best that they could.

A client came to me about a month ago asking for help in creating a song he wanted to do for his daughter's birthday. He already had some lyrics written, some midi music recorded on garageband, etc... to use as an idea. But, he wanted something better from it. I helped him rearrange the track to be more catchy, suggested verse and lyrical additions, got rid of all but two midi instruments, added real drums, real bass, real guitar, and real piano. And, I had him re-sing his parts, get a better performance out of him, a better mix, and a better overall quality of song. I think he did really well for someone with very little musical knowledge or experience. All in all, we spent about 80 hours on this one track, deconstructing it, and then reconstructing it into what you hear now.

Unfinished Megadeth/Holy Wars cover.

I started this project a number of years ago. It was going to be an all analog album of heavy metal thrash tracks that varied between early Megadeth and Metallica songs. This was the first track started. Vocals were done by Tim Howitt. All I need are the lead guitar tracks to be recorded, and it's finished

How Many.WAV

This song was originally recorded on the AW4416 back in  2007. Recently, due to hard drive failure, I have lost my mix data to a number of songs. Fortunately, I was able to save the individual wav files. Since then, I have purchased Reaper and found new hard drives for my AW4416. I have decided to do a mix comparison between the two systems using only the stock VSTs from Reaper, and just the internal processing of the AW4416. I encourage everyone to leave their comments about which version they like better without actually knowing which was mixed on either system.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Brian F came into his talents of music at an early age. Old stories say that he got his start at the age of 9 months while his father's band practiced their set in the kitchen of the family home. During breaks, the drummer would sit Brian on his lap and let him bang away.

By age 2, Brian already had a developed sense of rhythm. Old 1/4inch reel to reel tapes still exist to this day of Brian banging away rhythms on Nerf soccer balls.

By age 5, Brian got his first full size drum kit. This was the one and only kit he would use up to the age of 16, when he started playing music professionally for a classic rock cover band.

Brian's first gig playing live in front of a large audience came at the age of 10, when he was attending an AA gig his father's band was hired to play. In a hall holding approximately 1000 people, Brian got in the drum kit during the second half of the set and played the next two hours of driving classic rock covers.

By age 12, Brian was becoming bored with just being a drummer, so he decided to pick up his father's guitar and bass and begin teaching himself how to play. Once he learned the basic position and scales, Brian taught himself how to play hard rock/heavy metal structures and riffs by copying Metallica's Black album note for note.

At age 13, Brian played his first gig with an originals alternative rock band by the name of Scoop Fresh. Several music journalists attended the show of 500 people and wrote about it in the local Seattle papers. Rumor is that at his young age, Brian was written up as easily being placed within the top 20 amateur drummers in Washington State.

During this time, Brian also became interested in recording. Using only what gear was currently at his disposal, Brian grabbed 2 tape decks with built in mics, recording each instrument one at a time while also playing a previously recorded take from a second tape deck, both stacked in front of a 100 watt tube amp. This ultimately lead to his current talents at audio engineering and mastering out of his modest home based studio, F Studios, in the great northwest.

In the early 2000s, Brian submitted some of his recent recordings to a now defunct music competition website known as Garageband.com. In 2005, Brian received an award from them for #7 Best Drums in Rock All Time, winning that spot over hundreds of thousands of artists world wide.

To date, Brian still creates and records various styles of music at F Studios. He also helps other musicians and bands engineer their music and make it ready for commercial reproduction and distribution. Over the last few years he has put together a new album that has recently been finished with tracks that can fit right in with some of the top rock and metal acts of the era, including big names like Metallica, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, and Type O Negative.
