The 2nd movement from the suite Aquarelle is this lyrical piece that was originally composed about a year before the 1st and 3rd movements.

While the title and the time signature refer to waltz(valse)this piece is more song than dance. The overall tonality is major, but some of the harmonies imply Lydian mode, which gives the mood of the piece some ambiguity.

Sergio Assad is one of the most prolific and most played contemporary composers for the guitar. A virtuoso performer in his own right, his pieces are often influenced by the rhythms and chord progressions of his native Brazil.

I have a degree in classical guitar performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have studied in master classes in Chicago, New York, and Spain with some of the best guitarists in the world including Christopher Parkeing, Sergio Assad, Leo Brouwer and Denis Azabagic.

I have performed as a guitar soloist on concert series in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas, and have traveled with the Moody Men's Choir as a guitar accompanist and soloist to several countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
