Old-school Autumn Set - 21.03.2023

Overqualified Warmup Set.

The art of the DJ is in his capacity of being a good storyteller through the power of music, hence, being able to generate an uplifting moment. A warmup set usually is underestimated, when it is of key essence to begin correctly the flow of any human gathering.

Hence, this is my own definition of how a warmup set should be done. 
Three progressing hours, distinctive one from each other, where music goes from 110 to 125 b.p.m., starting with downtempo grooves and eclectic tracks, followed by a second hour of pure progressive house music, and finishing with an hour of much more festive music… but the challenge is how to “get there”.

This is my 9th Recorded DJ Set, mixed with "Traktor DJ Pro 3" & a "Pioneer DDJ-T1" Controller, live on the 16th of March, 2023, at the pampean-grassland-fields.

This set is also dedicated to the victims of the Time Warp tragedy, which happened in Buanos Aires, Argentina, on the 16th of April, 2016, due to the lack of awareness of the producers of the event.

A note on those few repeated tracks that you may find. 
Try to think in this analogy: if each song is an actor, then the set is the movie in which they play. Hence, you can use an actor in different ways according to the movie. The director is the DJ mixing and making his -or her, obviously- own “storytelling” using tracks as a means to produce a feeling. Or so I believe. 

A note on any mistakes you may find: in times of over SYNC usage and artificial intelligence programs taking over all the art creation, I have come to believe that allowing a mistake to remain in the set, is proof that you are a Human making a live performance. As my brother used to say, “it is as if the drummer has a mistake playing live, missing one beat due to a human error”.

Overqualified Warmup Set - 16.04.2023

Kraftwerk Tribute Set.

If someone asks you what Kraftwerk is, then this is the mixtape you can play for them to fully understand the evolution of electronic music through the German grandfathers of this genre.

Seeing them live last Tuesday 23rd of May, 2023, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was an epic moment for me, the pinnacle of long years listening to music. One week after that day, I felt the call of compiling an array of tracks, that would clearly show how their sound progressed along the decades. This is something very difficult to pull through and actually mix, as they only know how to rightfully and righteously do it.

This tribute passes through four distinctive stages. The first one goes from 1974 to 1978. It is there when -after playing with sounds during several years- they started making lovely songs with uplifting melodies. But there were also dark ones... The second stage, from 1981 to 1986, moves forward with the sculpting of the character of their own music. The third stage is around 1991, when Kraftwerk was already inside the underground clubs, the night scene, as well as going out through homemade loudspeakers, kraftwerked… The fourth and last stage is around 2005, which is when they had already managed to purify, enhance and boost their sound at their mightiest power, gaining respect worldwide.

Introspective Voyage Set Vol II.

This is an eclectic set, with a salad of genres. 

The “Introspective Voyage” approach -in the music selection process- aims to allow you to think better, feel freely and freshly, get things straight and assess your inner brainstormings. 

Here, compared to Vol I, I have left out the tropical and folk-type beats, and went way deep into ambience music, merging it up with other forlorn melodies as well as with powerful voice interventions. But, contrary to the usual progression and storytelling of sets in which you start slowly, this stage is presented last, whereas the beginning seems to be leading us to an ordinary melodic and progressive house voyage. Far from the truth… when you think you are happily into something, the set takes a steep downturn into several introspective insights…

Designed to dance, but maybe only for a while… & then to sit back, relax and contemplate.
It is an emotional tool, for sure, which served me as a sort of “detox” for the soul.
I sincerely hope you enjoy it! 

I have left a small mistake over the very end of the set, as a proof that I am not a robot, but Human… In a part in which there were three channels playing at the same time! Nevertheless, once heard, I loved it, as the small mistake seems on purpose, as a detail to bring us back from our mantra-listening. We will never know if it was really a mistake, or intended. But, who cares?

Introspective Voyage Set Vol II - 07.06.2023

Journey Back To The Earth Set.


This is the last of three galactic journeys, which began two sets ago, and conform -altogether- one huge epic story. But now, we need to “go back”…

This is why this set has been diagrammed in an “inverse” manner.

It has been planned to make us “come back inwards” into Earth from our journey upwards. So, you will find that we start just in the point where we left: with high beats per minute (bpm). When you push play, you will perceive how the bpms go downwards, starting at 128 bpms and then decreasing through progressive house music, all the way down towards the downtempo and chillout genres.


We could divide this new return-voyage into three stages which coincide with each hour of the set. 

The first hour (going from 128 to 123 bpms) covers our travel from Neptune to the outer zones of the Moon. That hour is full of “astronaut-progressive” tracks. These are purely galactic tracks that help us keeping up with the speed of the journey required to pass through all the planets of the outskirts of our Solar System.

When we arrive to the Moon, the second hour of the set begins. Here, you might perceive a clear change in the vibes of the tracks that have been selected for you, going towards a more “melodic” progressive house environment (going from 123 to 119 bpms), with highly emotional and melancholic songs that tell us that we are getting closer to our motherland: The Earth. 

It is here where we will undergo “the entry to Earth”, going through the five layers of the Atmosphere: the Exosphere, the Thermosphere, the Mesosphere, the Stratosphere and the Troposphere. All these layers are represented in the five mixes that overlap-together the six tracks of this stage.

In my opinion, it is very clear when we finally enter our air-space, and glide towards a safe landing. Believe me, the landing is evident… It is there where we have our last big dance, and proceed to re-discover our land. It is in that moment when we jump into our last stage, the third hour, full of more “earthly sounds” coming from the downtempo, chillout and ambient genres (going from 108 to as down as 55 bpms). These tracks will enable us to reconnect again with our mineral, vegetal, animal and human sides. 

Standing at the shore of our New Beginning, we embark ourselves in a boat, sailing without a compass, with three opening tracks that involve the element of Water in their making. Then, we arrive to land again, and instruments begin to appear (the human art-mind at work). We can hear the sound of a trumpet coming over there, then a saxophone closer over here… & keyboards, of course. Even clockwork sounds, French lyrics, the sound of birds chirping, African voices…

There is Silence also, right after some weird white noise coming from a clear vinyl record sound… Silence here is used as a resource, to mark the encounter with society and our current situation. To explain this, nothing better than a small powerful speech in the last track, where we can listen to the great Jiddu Krishnamurti, saying to us, very kindly: 

“A transformation of the mind! (…) 
But that depends on you and nobody else (…)
You yourself are the teacher, 
you are the pupil, you are the master,
you are the guru, you are the leader (…) 
You are everything…
&
to Understand…
is to transform what IS…”

Journey Back To The Earth - 20.07.2023

Reconnection, A Siblings Odyssey Set.


This DJ set tells a captivating tale of entanglement and the merging of forces. After what felt like quantum eons, I had the privilege of spending a few days with my dear blood brother, Alexander Longstaff. Together, we dove into old favorites, discovered new gems for each other, and through the power of music, released any barriers that constrained us.

Our magic, as artistical creative brothers, lies in our mystical understanding of music. We possess the knowledge to evoke goosebumps with epic, massive tracks and the storytelling prowess needed to sequence those tracks perfectly.

It was on a Friday that we began shaping the different facets of the set. We contemplated song combinations in our minds and deliberated over the perfect artwork for the set cover. The quest for the best sound possible unfolded, involving five different loudspeakers connected in a continuous stream of cables across the lawn behind the rural house we chose as our serene backdrop.

This marks my 22nd live-recorded DJ set, inspired by my brother and skilfully mixed using Traktor DJ Pro 3 and a Pioneer DDJ-T1 controller on February 23rd, 2024, amidst the scenic pampean-grassland fields.
