Brice Smith is currently pursuing a dual masters in flute performance and chamber music at the University of Michigan. He received his Bachelors of Music in flute performance, violin performance and German language through the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Arkansas. Brice has a strong sense for community development through music and actively seeks out performances to spread music to all audiences.  
  	Brice won the 2014 University of Michigan Camerata Concerto Competition. In 2013, Brice won first place in the University of Arkansas Concerto/Aria Competition, which granted him the opportunity to perform the Arnold flute concerto, Op. 45 with the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. In the same year, he premiered a piece for violin and male chorus at the Arkansas All-State conference. In 2012, he was a winner in the Oklahoma Flute Society Competition. Brice entered the University of Arkansas Music Departmental Honor’s Recital Competition and was showcased for four consecutive years. (2010-2014) Between the states of Arkansas, New York and Oklahoma, he has competed and was chosen to perform in eleven All-State ensembles.
  Brice’s professional orchestral and band experience includes being a section flutist in the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra. From 2011-2014 he was both a section flutist and violinist in the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra, where he held the Larry and Jean Mosby endowed chair from 2013-2014; section violinist in the Symphony Orchestra of Northwest Arkansas, where he held the Lester M. Lewis endowed chair from 2012-2014; section flute substitute-Fort Smith Symphony; associate concertmaster-Opera Fayetteville, section violin-Woodstock Chamber Orchestra; section violin-Wilson/Barton Symphony; concertmaster-University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra; principal flute-University of Arkansas Wind Symphony; section flute-Arkansas Intercollegiate Band; principal flute-University of Michigan Philharmonia Orchestra; principal flute-University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra and principal flute-University of Michigan Symphony Band. 
 	Through the University of Arkansas, Brice organized a community driven travelling string quartet by the name of “Maestro Quartet,” whose aim was to enrich local venues with live classical repertoire. Some performance locations included the chancellor home at the University of Arkansas and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Brice was an active member in the Razorback Marching Band. Through the program he held the leadership roles of principal chair, drill captain, squad leader and piccolo section leader.
 	Some notable summer programs that aided Brice in his studies of music are the National Repertory Orchestra (2015), Hot Springs Music Festival (2013), Holzkirchen, Germany (Akademischer Gesangverein München Orchestra and German language study abroad) (2012), Opera in the Ozarks (2011), Drum Major Academy (2006), Hartwick College Summer Music Festival (2006), Crane Youth Music Camp (2003) and the Colgate Music Camp. (2001)
 	 Brice has taken part in masterclasses with Amy Porter, Jim Walker, Nicole Esposito, Nancy Stagnitta, Don Bailey, Christine Erlander Beard, Alexander Markov, Natasha Korsakova, Alissa Margulis, and Drew Irvin. He has also worked hand in hand with composer in residence, Augusta Read Thomas. He has studied with Dr. Jan Vinci, David Frühwirth,  Dr. Carol Cowan and Dr. John Arnold. At the University of Arkansas he studied with Dr. Er-Gene Kahng and Dr. Ronda Mains, where he was a Presser Award Scholar. He currently studies with Professor Amy Porter at the University of Michigan.
