At the time I was very upset about how music seemed to be going, in general. I was bored of this sort of thing. I'd been predicting its imminent death for months and months, and been more and more wrong.

I wanted some revenge on the world, which I convinced myself I'd taken by making a tune as ridiculous as possible then deliberately being too lazy to give it proper drums etc.

In retrospect, the joke is on me, because I ended up actually enjoying the result, no one else was annoyed enough to really get into the hate-filled ranting that came with it, and now I'm just catching a lot of mediocre house instead. Great.

Fresh Jazz Collision - Phat Reverb (Crap Snare) [clip]

Really synthy... stuff. Started with a lucky preset choice immediately after waking up from a very intense dream, but became the slightly different idea it now is when I lost my thread after the laptop overheated. True story. Exciting life.

This never did get properly finished because I was using so many dodgy VSTs to get the sounds "exactly right", I got into a situation where I couldn't reliably render it, and it was meanwhile so CPU-intensive it was impossible to play back in real time.

The bounce you're hearing now was essentially a miracle; it took about five attempts (at 90% of real speed!) to complete successfully.

I can't really complain though, you could never do this sort of shit with tape for sure.

I used to say "tunes you'll want to dance to, but won't be able to". Not nearly true, really.

If something is "Kill Yourself" then that means I got sick of it before it was finished like it should have been. (This is about naming new mistakes after my worst piece; it is not an instruction. Very much the reverse.)

After long-term overexposure to technology I have mostly stopped doing this stuff and reverted to half-arsed instrument practice…
