Toy Tonics brings back the Kapote album. 10 dancefloor tracks originally released 2019 on the „What it is“ album. Now reworked, re-edited and with 2 new tracks.
House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, brasil, lofi - influence. A mood that reminds early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler or 1990ies Paris stuff. Loft Disco and Indie House.
When this album came out originally 3 years ago, it caught the attention of many great DJs. DJ Harvey was playing „Jaas Func Haus“ a lot at Pike in Ibiza and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album.
Kapote doesn’t release much music as he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction and is also in many productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, electronic music and by now is doing what he does with Toy Tonics with a couple of friends and like-minded producers.
Kapote’s real name is Mathias Modica and if you google this you will find out he has been doing music before Toy Tonics under the name of Munk. Doing another label called Gomma Records. Where he and some friends already created a little universe based on electronic music, street art, DIY culture, shirt design, underground exhibitions. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Muprhy and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, The Rammellzee and WhoMadeWho. This is the past. The future will be new Kapote stuff currently in the making with Cody Currie and Sam Ruffillo. Meanwhile, check out WHAT IT IS – 2nd VERSION.

Underground System returns to Razor-N-Tape with the Looking In EP - a 5-track offering of fresh originals and remixes. Ranging from low-slung balearic grooves, to driving left-field funk and urgent uptempo backbeats, the record is a fine-tuning of the US sound, complete with their signature flute and synth soundscapes, driving percussion, and catchy offbeat vocal hooks. On the B-side, RNT mainstays Nenor and Clive From Accounts take two of the tunes into clubbier territory, with a pair of remixes primed for the dance floor.

Blessed Madonna, Pete Tong, Gerd Janson, Ash Lauryn... the list of great DJs playing and loving Sam Ruffillo's very special italian disco music is long. With only 3 EPs on Toy Tonics, he might be the most talked about producer on the Berlin label (with Cody Currie and Coeo). One of his Italian disco songs form his last EP ITALIANISSIMO ("Chiamami Subito“) made it into the high rotation playlist of the biggest Italian pop radio and is still growing in the international club underground.

Now Sam comes with a new EP. And this EP shows his other side. Until now Sam has been known for his Italian organic disco songs (no samples, all instruments played live). But for his new BROOKLYN TAPES EP the Italo-Sicilian DJ, producer and super styler Sam Ruffillo worked with a few American rappers and soul singers to create what a New York critic called „post digital soul house music“. 

Remixes for the EP by some of Sam's fans: Ash Lauryn from Detroit, Eli Escobar from New York and Art Of Tones from France.

When Footjob label owner @phonk-d collaborates with his long time studio buddy @saschaciminiera, things turn out to be a bit deeper. 

On this EP they present three rather experimental house tracks that have been produced a few years ago already during their joint sessions at Pallasstudio.

Dusty MPC drums merge with raw synthesizer sounds to create a rough atmosphere. Accents are set by moody vocal samples and effects that complete the whole thing to a rugged picture.

It took some time for this EP to finally see the light of day, but as the German saying goes:
„Good things come to those who wait“

James Curd joins forces with rising artist Jonasclean on his latest PRONTO instalment inviting a stellar cast of remix talent to offer interpretations of the EP's title track ‘Mullen It Over’with house luminary Robert Owens making an appearance too.
 
James Curd has long been operating at the vanguard of the underground scene. Chicago born and bred, now based in Adelaide, the talented producer has established himself among the movement’s most reliable protagonists, turning out dancefloor heat for labels like Exploited, Dirtybird, Tsuba, Trax Records, and Classic Records while finding time to score music for film, TV, and video games. Joining him is Our Yunus Records front man and long-serving producer Jonasclean, providing slick vocal textures on this profoundly alluring composition. 
 
‘Mullen It Over’ features sensual synths over thumping house rhythms, the evocative melodies complimenting Jonasclean’s searing vocal as the bassline adds weight to the groove. NYC resident and master of the deep Fred P rides in with a typically affecting take. Regenerating the bass amidst soul-soothing pads and mystical overdubs, he reframes the music as a spiritually charged meditation.  Lumberjacks In Hell front man Marcel Vogel steps up with a kaleidoscopic rework, emphasizing the harmonics and adding soul to the mix. Then the loose-limbed ‘Original Sketch Version’ offers up a floor-focused take, where propulsive chords stand in for the vocal as the spaced-out orchestration meanders over drums and rich synth bass.  Finally, house legend Robert Owens rides in to add a trademark vocal to the ‘Original Sketch Version’ on the newly named ‘Tried For Love’. Here Owens’ soul-drenched vox provides an irresistible alternative to the dubbed-out instrumental, lending itself brilliantly to the Chi-town bump of the composition.

Brief Work is a collaboration between The Maghreban and a singer who wishes to remain anonymous. They connected playing some Allez Allez and Swamp Children records a couple of summers ago.
