Premiered by the Bergamot String Quartet at the 2023 Arts, Letters, & Numbers Creative Music Intensive  

This piece is an attempt at switching the stereotypical roles of the violins and viola + cello within the quartet. Stereotypes are reductionist, so I wanted to approach this with camp. The name comes from one of my favorite Star Trek TNG episodes "Remember Me" in which the universe and the people in it disappear around the protagonist, Dr. Beverly Crusher. For me, the piece is saying, if you are going to remember me, you better remember me THIS WAY, even if I have to be a little extra or repetitive about it.

How do I know what is around me when I don’t know where I am? Documentation of time, scale, and the inevitability of our significance is a shallow stab to represent the fact that we cannot experience everything when it is not tailored for our human experience and senses. Animals hear and see in frequencies we are unable to process. Movement is too gradual for us to witness in our lifetimes. Our seemingly small actions here have cumulative effects on micro and macro ecosystems.

How can I know where I'm going if I don't know where I am?

Briggs is a composer, flute player, and grant consultant living in Phx, AZ. Briggs founded Oh My Ears in 2014 at Trunk Space, an all-ages venue where Briggs currently sits on the board. Their works have been performed all over the country / globe and they have participated as a composer at Composing in the Wilderness, Bang on a Can Summer Festival, The Cortona Sessions, Millay Arts, and many more. Briggs primarily works with small-medium ensembles employing a wide range of techniques to produce music that is dense, sometimes unhinged, and sometimes funny.
