For this week’s DETECT we welcome @ona_vera. 

The Polish born artist’s ear for dark grooves and emotive electro has enabled ona:v to carve out a path as a DJ in Edinburgh whilst working as a scientist by day. Founder of the female and non-binary collective EPiKA, the sisu resident curates a bi-monthly party called CiRCLE, where she books female and non-binary names from the harder side of electronic music.

BIO:
The ever-evolving music interests and love for rhythmic variety brought GOŚCIŃSKA to delve into various styles that she blends in her sets. Melting moody electro with groovy techno; breakbeat with 4x4 rhythms or smashing a techno set spiced up with acid, breaks, punk, D’n’B is what you can expect. Industrial slow-beat, deconstructed club, experimental and ambient music all have a special place in her non-peak time selection as well. 

She’s been hosting a radio show on the London Aaja Music radio under the @szlag_my_pitch_up  project, where she invites prominent electronic music artists for a chat and to show the non-club music selection they never get to play in clubs, all the while promoting promising newcomers.

Working on the program and organization of her brainchild @sfora_art is what she does when not behind the decks. The DIY festival is an intimate summer event in the lake region of Poland, focusing on electronic music, visuals and workshops, giving space of expression to underground artists from various countries. Next edition: 2-4.06.2023.

Today, we'll once again introduce a remarkable name from the Slovak club techno scene. This time, P!KREK has provided his mix for the PLAY Podcast series.

He musically grew up in the Slovak club techno scene at Bratislava's U.Club, which besides him, shaped our entire electronic scene. His career, still under the name Dj Crack, started in 2002 when he began visiting the vinyl shop E-Records in Petržalka. Over more than two decades, he performed under pseudonyms Krek, ProjektkreK, or Pkrek. He released numerous recordings and records featuring music of various genres in collaboration with iconic figures of electronic music such as Monika Načeva, Moimir, Papalescu, Karaoke Tundra, Side9000, Dj Five, Modré Hory, Gulos Potrok, and many others. Radio_FM regularly broadcasts his work, and several musical projects have been nominated for Radio_Head Awards. P!KREK enjoys experimenting; his DJ sets are full of proper club techno with massive sound. For the PLAY Podcast series, he delivered a mix featuring classic banging techno sound, a misty atmosphere, as well as dramatic passages of long mixed transitions, blending into new sonic structures.

For more than a decade VJ and multimedia director. He performed at all music festivals in Poland, cooperating with such bands as Skalpel, Miloop, Oszibarack, Igor Boxx. As a multimedia director, he co-created performances by Krystian Lupa, Jan Klata, Agata Duda-Gracz... At the Wrocław Multimedia Fountain, where he held the position of Artistic Director, he collaborated with Brian Eno. Co-creator of special effects for the film "Rabbit in Berlin", dir. Bartek Konopka, which was nominated for an Oscar.
Fascinated with electronic music for years. Founder of the SLAP group, passionate about strong and good sound and energetic dancer. His sets are stylishly heterogeneous and strongly reflect what sits in his head.
