One of the most important labels of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene, Toulouse-based Esthétique, reaches its 28th release. Doing the honours, Russian Chandeliers, a new project formed by Niko Rapsis (Fringe Society, Modern Ruin) and Julian Grefe (Pink Skull, Clean Plate). Originally hailing from Athens and Philadelphia, respectively, the skilled duo met in 2014 in Berlin where they both reside and share a studio space. Their collaborative project, sprung from a mutual love of all things unsavoury and unfun, saw its inaugural release on New York’s SAMO Records. For their follow-up on the French imprint, these two dapper lifers offer up an EP of paranoid, muscular analog grooves fit for filthy basements and dirty dance floors.

Their powerful and vibrant “Silos” EP delivers four stunning originals and four top-notch remixes made with love by Zillas On Acid, Tushen Raï (SXDNS038) & Warum, Steady State, and Celestino (SXDNS009), yours truly.

Premiered here, Zillas On Acid’s interpretation of “A Fine Day For A Drubbing”. Formed by Thomas Roland and James Weissinger, long-time residents at Philadelphia's never-ending nightlife institution Making Time. Their post-punk and dilettante techno sonority paired perfectly with Russian Chandeliers’ work. The result of the rendezvous delivered one of the most striking pieces of the release with the highlighting going for the groovy percussive layer, the throbbing bassline and, yes, of course, the acid lead. With Dead Man’s Hand - Poker Flat Volume VI, the label sharpened its edge. By early 2008, Poker Flat had already carved out a reputation for precision-crafted club music, but this compilation revealed a darker glint beneath the surface.

Curated by Steve Bug, the first CD laid down a hand of standout originals and sharp remixes. From the stripped suspense of “Behind the Curtains” by Steve Bug & Clé to Martin Landsky’s sleek “Man High,” every track was chosen with intent. Redshape’s haunting remix of Simon Flower’s “The Whisper Had It” and Sebo K’s version of “Let Me Dance” added further depth, keeping one foot in the shadows.

The second disc, mixed by Clé of Märtini Brös, moved with fluidity, threading together a deeper and more atmospheric side of the label. Raudive’s “Needles” (Steve Bug Remix), Ryo Murakami’s “Nightmare,” and Guido Schneider & Florian Schirmacher’s “Organic” all made an appearance, before drifting into the surreal finale with Märtini Brös’ “Karawane.”

Named after the infamous poker hand of black aces and eights, the one Wild Bill Hickok was said to be holding when he was shot, the compilation embraced a sense of risk, drama and high-stakes elegance that suited the Poker Flat catalog perfectly.

It's been a tough year for everyone, especially for the electronic music and artists in general,  however, Madrid's Logical Records have seized this opportunity to bring  audiences something special and make important changes for the future. 

Label bosses Mike Sacchetti and Ivan De La Rouch have  decided to put together five magical tracks on what's going to be the first V/A Vinyl/Digital Release from the imprint. "Meteors" is the name given to this story and it's where the main characters came together from different places around the globe to take us on a trip filled with dark hypnotic sounds and groovy beats.
