Use The Phone

Sometimes you compose a piece of music without fully grasping the mood or emotion you're aiming to convey. This particular piece was crafted in late July 2020, following the departure of a close friend and fellow musician to a new galactic address. I hadn't revisited it since then, but upon stumbling upon it while searching for something else, I felt it deserved to be shared for others to appreciate.

This is a track from somewhere in my deep distant musical past recorded on a cassette 4 Track recorder before the days of digital and riffworld, and even guitar effects...!  I was learning jazz bass at the time and the drums are my old - now an escapee - Alesis SR16.
I tried to remove most of the hum and hiss, so hopefully it sounds ok.

Man From Jocund

This is a track from approx 1992, which used a Roland D20 for the rhythm, set to the much maligned MIDI setting Omni On... thus the title.
I play guitar, arranged and created some of the rhythm parts, and Brian Matthews - played additional bass and keys using an Ensoniq Mirage, at that time we called ourselves "Twin Soul Tribe" - it was just the two of us.

This is one of a few ongoing pieces of music which is being worked on, via dropbox and riffworks, this contains - On drums - from Nashville we have Jim Dye, who also does some keys (but not at the same time), from Wusen Luhe, Germany we have Michael Becker on Bass... and from Bristol, United Kingdom, but he tends to travel about a bit.. we have Robert Ellis on Guitars, Ebow, and other bits...

I then got all theses parts, which were finished overtime, and put it together... (that is produced it, and wrote the melody) Who says you need to be in the same room to create music (and to add.. I say its good, though the listener has a choice to comment..)

Spanish Lilt

This was created during a lazy day last Christmas and put into the 'its ok, I may come back to it later file folder', it is was originally quite a lot calmer than the track it is now, but I had forgotten about the track, and it is in fact what it was when I left it, so I felt it was now worthy of being heard by the masses (well at least two people. I play all the instruments, produced it, mixed it, mastered it, and have now posted it.
