Our very special guest this week on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast  is Danny Howells. 

The British DJ and producer has become one of the most well loved and reliable record spinners around.  From his early days performing in the local clubs around Hastings, UK, to DJing at John Digweed’s Bedrock parties, for which he served as a resident for nine years, Howells has become a firm favorite with fans and other DJs alike.  Literally performing in every four corners of the globe, with a relentless schedule over the years, Danny is known for his longer extended sets, regularly working a 10 hour set, be it in New York or London, or beyond.

In the studio, Danny has been releasing his own brand of “futuristic tech house funk” under various guises since the mid 1990s, cropping up on labels like Yoshitoshi, Sex On Wax and his own label, Dig Deeper, but it’s probably as a DJ first and fore mostly that Danny has built his solid reputation upon, releasing superb mix albums for Renaissance, Global Underground and most recently, Balance Music, as well as legendary radio mixes such as his classic 2002 Radio 1 Essential Mix.

So, it’s a real scoop to have him on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast this week, so prepare for two hours of music par excellence, this week, from Danny Howells.

Just in time for New Year’s Eve jams, Luke Fair held down  the fort and delivered your favourite progressive house podcast before the calendar turned over.

It was an incredible year for Luke. With new management and a new level of inspiration, he was on fire in the booth and studio.

Live sets circulated from Club Slovenia and Toronto proved he’s still one of the best club DJs on the planet. His consistent flow of promo sets continued to have fans entertained for hours on end and his ever-growing collection of original and remix production solidified Luke as one of the most well-rounded talents in the underground.

2012 is shaping up to be another phenomenal campaign with Luke set to release another handful of sensational tracks and of course he’ll most certainly be performing in a nightclub near you. Just do yourself a favour and be there when he is.

The legend began with the Spring Promo; a mix of a lot of firsts for us as well as Luke. This was the first of many promo sets we sent to Mercuryserver to include in their Special Downloads section. MS has since grown to be the top messageboard for anything progressive house and we like to think Luke has had a big hand in putting them on the map. The mix was also timed for release around bringthebeats’ first trip to the WMC. As you can tell by the summery vibe, it was the perfect sound for South Beach.

As we approach the 20th – and final – episode of The Rogue Show we present an installment 100% pure to the concept’s original vision.  Episode 18 is all about deep and emotional house. Selections Luke Fair and Add2Basket struggle to fit into their live sets, but gems that will allow this series to withstand the test of time.

For as sad as it will be to reach the grand finale in October, we’ll always have mixes like Episode 18 that can be played in perpetuity. And just as we anxiously await the next Nolan classic, Rogue Show fans can look forward to what’s next for Luke and Andrew… which thankfully for all of us, is Episodes 19 & 20 first and foremost.

Huge thanks to Paul Watson for the sensational Batman-inspired designs.  Paul constructs most of his work on an iPad; ingenuity we admire so much.  His comic creativity is really quite genius considering he designs strictly for the love.  Obviously he’s an artist we can truly relate to and one we had to showcase in The Rogue Show gallery.

It’s hard not to be nostalgic as we wind down The Rogue Show series. It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotion, with so much change in our lives since its inception. It’s taken a lot of hard work and complex coordination, but I can confidently say each episode has been compiled and packaged with the utmost care. It’s a collection we’ll all cherish and listen to forever. We sincerely hope you will too.

We’ll keep this intro short, as there will be lots to talk about when we release our grand finale next month. But before we move onto the tunes, we’d like to give a quick shout out to Jason Darbyson of re.form [avw] for the slick Bedrock-inspired cover art. JD and Luke Fair go way back and he’s also been a great friend to bringthebeats, designing most of our INTIMATE & UNDERGROUND posters. The Rogue Show Episode 020 - Luke Fair

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
