I wrote this song after the multiple shootings that have happened in the United States. I also got a lot of inspiration from seeing all the institutional racism that has taken place for longer than it should. I want this song to be a reminder to people that if we are ever going to change anything we have to do it together. Other than that, I will let the song do the talking.

When I was in my Sophomore year of high school a very dear friend of mine was getting pretty close to this guy in my grade. He seemed reserved, quite, and shy to me but my friend had a very close bond with this boy. Although I didn't quite understand I saw how happy this guy was making my friend. She was always smiling and talking about him and you could tell that she seemed to have found someone that really understood her and vice versa. Jump forward a year or so and I am sitting a state away from my best friend as she is telling me over the phone that this boy, whom she had loved, hung himself. I could do nothing. I just sat on the phone and tried to find the words to say to her. Up to this date I had never dealt with suicide or a death this brutal. And to be honest, I wasn't really dealing with it personally. But hearing the true gut-wrenching pain that my friend was in over this absolute tragedy moved me so much so that I had to get it out through song. This is Jacob's Lullaby; my version of singing his beautiful soul to sleep. I sincerely hope that I do him justice and that he can somehow hear the art that was inspired by his life even if it was by someone who knew him so little.

This song is the perfect description of the way my depression has made me feel over the course of my existence. People often cry when I perform this song because we all know someone you has/is suffering with this disease that we often don't talk about. It does get better. But at the end of the day it's only up to you and your mind.
