In December, 2013, David Block was invited to participate in Matt Geraghty's "21" project. Matt's vision was to bring in musicians from all different styles/countries/ethnicities and create 21 days of improvisational music. Over the 21 days, 43 new bands were created. Every session was completely unique and fully improvised. David was invited to take part of Session 16 and had the idea of doing an "improv" production session. Session 16 consisted of Danny Musengo (singer/songwriter ), Adriano Santos (percussion), Victor Provost (steel pan) & Matt Geraghty (stand-up bass). They immediately clicked and started making incredible music. David sat back and listened for an hour while the artists got to know each other. At the end of the session, David picked his favorite song they had created and one by one, recorded all the parts, free-styled in one take by each of the musicians. Starting with guitar, Danny Musengo sings the song "Here for a Moment" completely freestyle.  All the supplemental parts were recorded in one take each. A total of 17 individual layers of instruments by 4 musicians. Only one mic was used and all tracks were recorded in two hours in Matt's apartment. Stand up bass was recorded in the bathroom :) It was a true freestyle recording session with no preconceived ideas/direction. 75 hours in the lab and the song "Here for a Moment" was born.  

"The finale of 21 takes a twist on our theme of improvised music collaboration and brings together electronic music producer David Block of The Human Experience, with filmmaker Laura Newman, to make a fully produced/mastered track and music video. While all of the sessions thus far have focused on live sessions, Day 21 took the improvised pieces from the musicians from Day 16 (Danny Musengo, Adriano Santos, Victor Provost and Matt Geraghty) and remixed them into an innovative song and music video." - Matt Geraghty Project

Experience the voyage from start to finish as the crew traced the southern migration of the California Grey & Blue Whale from Santa Barbara to the US Border in six tandem kayaks. It all started with a goal of engaging key coastal communities and ended with a big helping of self-discovery for everyone involved…

1. These 20 Miles (feat Angus Stone) *

This is the 4th single from my new album "Embraced".  It is a remix I did for the amazing Kyrstyn Pixton, who over the last several years has become a great friend.  

Kyrstyn's music is deep and uplifting.  Her improvisational skills are incredible, and if you've ever had the chance to see her live, she's quite the silly one as well.  I've had some of my favorite live jams with her (dinosaur song at Rootwire, absolutely legendary lol)

I'm so excited to share my rendition of "Beads on the Wind".  I was visiting Kyrstyn and our friend Theo Brama happened to be at her house when I was choosing which song I wanted to remix.  I dove immediately into writing the song and was adding some guitar parts when I invited Theo (also 1/2 of Entheo, who I recommend checking out)to lay down some guitar parts.  Very happy with the result.  This song melts my heart
