Barbera’s debut EP, titled “The Sparrow,” features such songs such as “When the Well Runs Dry,” and “Greater than my Faith,” that strike at the core of her listeners. One fan didn’t hold back his response when he mentioned that the lyrics made him “weep.” Her new EP addresses issues of identity, faith, God, loneliness, and pure joy, a characteristic that best describes Barbera in person.  Her goal as a writer is to find words and music to say the things that so many people struggle to explain even to themselves. “Barbera’s music is poetry. It is a kind of catharsis that takes everything out of you and reenergizes you at the same time” explained another fan.  Inspired by artists like Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, and Alison Krauss, who have an affinity for exploring the texture of their voices, the rich nuance in Barbera’s vocals leave listeners holding onto those notes and words a little longer each time.

She may be a person of small stature, but there is nothing small about Brittany Barbera’s music. This dynamic artist from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has big things to say and the lyrics and lungs to back it up.  Her eclectic blending of folk, country, and pop sounds speaks to her fearlessness as an artist, and it is that fearlessness, in fact, that drove her one day to pluck herself up from Pennsylvania, to Nashville, Tennessee, a location she now calls “home.” While Barbera is no stranger to travel and the pangs of wanderlust, her lyrics seem to settle quite easily in the hearts of her listeners.

Her adventurous spirit inspires her projects, leading her back to what started it all: fun. What drives Barbera’s creative process is the spontaneity of collaboration, and the discovery of different sounds, vocals, and arrangements. Her most recent projects are exploratory in nature as Barbera experiments with new questions about life, drinks copious amounts of coffee, and lets awkward encounters with new people serve as her inspiration.  Her path from busking, playing coffee shops, leading in her church worship team, and recording in Nashville, proves that this new artist is as purposeful in her choices as she is in her music.
