Blues and soul and hip-hop but also a pinch of funk as well as electronic influences can be heard on Crossing Borders. Self composed songs, such as Dede Priest’s impressive and powerful vocal presentation of the soul-pop-number ‘Love ain’t just a word’, or the dancehall-driven blues track ‘Heaven’ from singer and songwriter Masha, sit alongside remakes of old traditional songs and ‘Way Down in the Hole’ of course. As a big fan of the US TV series ‘The Wire’ Kreuzer couldn’t resist. “It is the theme song of the series but every season has a different artists interpretation, including Blind Boys of Alabama, Neville Brothers and Steve Earle.” The album’s forerunner, ‘John the Revelator’, which in the meantime, exactly like Urban Blues, reached the number one spot in the iTunes Blues charts, is a traditional gospel blues about the Book of Revelations. A music box melody meets a menacing beat and the sonorous blues voice of singer Wayne Martin. As on their debut album, BRIXTONBOOGIE combine tradition and modernity on Crossing Borders - the difference being that this time there is even more experimentation. Hence the name Crossing Borders.  “Because we are performing across limits”, says Kreuzer. “Where we might have said, there is a checkpoint, let’s slip through, this time it was more as if we were standing at a crossroads and we deliberately took a certain path. Where do I come from, where do I want to go?
In the meantime Crossing Borders reached the number one spot in the iTunes R&B / Soul Charts this week.
