PREMIERE : Alberto Castellana - Downtown (Carlo Ferro Piano Mix)

I'm a former sound engineer from Translab Studio Paris, providing audio mastering for +650 releases including Pepe Bradock "Deep Burnt", and all Daft Punk's Crydamoure label. I've carved the French-Touch sound during 10 years and launched the lounge music movement. I initiated the first raves in France with my friend Manu Casana, sound-designed Karl Lagerfeld's shows amongst others. This is my new projet. 100 compilations, sharing my personal selection of the best contemporary music, mixed together in the most eclectic way, yet creating an unforgettable journey. This is my "Collection".

I am delighted to share this eighth musical journey with you, a colorful, sun-drenched mix that's perfect for kicking off the night after a frugal meal! "Collection 008" is now available on Soundcloud and Mixcloud. 

Faithful to the eclecticism I've used for the first five volumes, this new opus will plunge you into a mix between the world of the 2000s - with its wealth of melodies and fusions with electronic music - and the 70s. The latter is represented by a number of UFOs that permeate the mix, giving it a patina and a timeless dimension. Serge Gainsbourg and his musical constellation take pride of place here.

This mix is a bridge between lounge music and my conception of today's mainstream music. From the very first sound, the dance is underway, launched on a swinging mid-tempo, where rhythm'n blues, funk and rap follow one another for the first 20 minutes, to run aground in the old-fashioned way on a first series of slows, with this superb remix by Boogalox, revisiting Gainsbourg's "Chez les Yé-Yé".

Halfway through, the tango merges with electronic music (a magnificent remix of Sarah Vaughan by my friends in Gotan Project)... and the dancing continues until the 50-minute mark. The second series of slows sweeps over everything like a gentle wave, taking us through its diversity to the sweet syrup of the magnificent Nightmare On Wax interlude that brings this new journey to a close. 

Of course, all this is just a summary of what my "Collection 008" is all about. Don't worry: the surprise is always there and the cachet always renewed.

Future-Soul duo J-Silk explores new territories with « Broken Butter », a delicate yet powerful ode to their beloved London influences of Acid-Jazz and Broken Beat.

A duo of creative atoms fueled with soul, hip hop and electronic music, J-Silk is known for offering a hybrid music and a bright artistic path stretching from France to England, called Future Soul.

On stage, J-Silk has crossed musical paths with artists such as Ezra Collective, Emile Londonien, Gaidaa, Moonchild, Black Milk, Poppy Ajudha, Lee Fields... and captivated audiences at festivals such as Les Francofolies, Printemps de Bourges and Jazzaldia in Spain. Their chill energy and natural connection with the audience turn every live performance into a memorable experience, full of good, easy-going vibes.

Their latest single, « Broken Butter », co-produced with their friend Deheb, is a fresh and sincere exploration of their influences with a distinctive sound, paying homage to Acid Jazz and Broken Beat. On this track, the artists invite flutist Alexandre Aguilera, who interacts with the voice of Joanna Rives throughout the journey. Beginning as a Broken Beat ballad, the end of the track imposes a 4/4 beat that flirts with House-Music, bringing and original twist with a touch of complexity.

With « Broken Butter »J-Silk continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries of their music by stepping into a style previously unexplored by the duo, yes making sense in their ever-evolving discography.

Label mainstays Fouk just dropped the perfect dancefloor Bomb with ‘Mirage’ paired with a high-octane Elisa Bee remix 

We all know Dutch duo Fouk from their soulful, bouncy take on house music. They’re also responsible for some of Heist’s biggest tracks like Kill Frenzy or their Lil Louis inspired 2021 release ‘Blue Steel’. On their new EP, the talented duo shows us a fresh side of their sound: the main-room hands-in-the-air-going-wild side. To top things off, Italian producer Elisa Bee made time in her busy schedule of DJ’ing and releasing for artists like Ben Sims on his Hardgroove imprint and Unknown to the Unknown to deliver a killer remix of the title track. 

Fouk’s return to Heist after 3 years is a welcome one and with ‘Mirage’, they might just have given us their biggest house track in their decade spanning career. The track is built around a stuttering synth loop and a seductive female vocal chanting ‘What made you wanna…” The real star here is the bassline, which propels the track into a seriously infectious groove. Add some lush strings and moody changeovers and you’ve got yourself a full-blown dancefloor weapon. Mirage has been a staple in Dam Swindle’s sets for the past months and has been one of their set highlights ever since.

“Coffee” is one for the classic Fouk fans. It’s got lovely Rhodes, a joyous combination of whoo’s, snare-rolls and synth hits grooving on top of an infectious orchestral background loop. “Tapioca” is a hybrid latin-electronic groove that builds on punchy synths, live percussion and drunk keys to balance the energy of the track. 

Elisa Bee’s remix of ‘Mirage’ is an intense percussive workout that builds on a breakbeat loop and a rave-bassline. The tempo is turned up a notch or 2 and that stutter synth and vocal of the original make this remix a wild warehouse affair.

Closing track of the EP is ‘Abalone’; A lovely bleep-house affair that still has a bit of that warehouse vibe. It’s got the perfect amount of distortion the drums while keeping things dreamy with some face-melting pads throughout the track.

Fouk - Coffee

Slowaxx is the solo project and live band created by Riccardo Chiarucci, a music producer, arranger and composer based in Tuscany (Italy). Here we present his first album "Shapes Interfusion’’, offering a unique blend of jazz, electronic music and hip-hop, recorded with a collective of musicians and the rapper Young A.M.A.

The creative process of the album involves a mix of home-studio production and live recorded sessions. Starting from ideas and demos from Riccardo, all tracks are the result of collaborative jams with musicians bringing their own styles and perception to the table. These sessions created a dialogue of personal vibrations, blending together to emerge as a collective sound.

Housed on French label Favorite Recordings- which is headed up by Pascal Rioux, the label synonymous with Jeremy Underground and his comp series: My Love is Underground - Many Shades of House is lovingly put together by Lea Lisa who has been about on the French underground scene for over twenty years. This compilation brings Lea Lisa to the fore with this excellent, chunky, sure-fire selection of four to the floor classic house treasures.
