Lena Platonos is a pioneer of the Greek electronic music scene. Her second solo album, ‘Gallop’, was produced in 1985, and reissued by Dark Entries in 2015. The album was made exclusively using analog synthesizers, and prominently features the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song, reciting her own surreal poetry. Lena says of ‘Gallop’, “It’s a study in the mythology of urban population of the contemporary metropolis and also a gaze into the future life of it.”

We’ve recruited Tel-Aviv's Red Axes to remix four of their favorite tracks from ‘Gallop’. The duo, DJs and producers Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and Italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. Their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as I’m a Cliché, Correspondant, and Hivern Discs. Through their alchemy, “Witches” and “And We Hear "I Love You” have been transformed into solid dancefloor tools, while “No. 9” and “Liqueur Ruby” are submerged in psychedelic mist. The latter features middle eastern rhythms by fellow Tel Aviv musicians The Dirty Lizards.

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is a reinterpretation of the original 'Gallop' cover, isolating the photograph of Lena layered on a grid backdrop designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated frame from one of Lena’s music videos. “In an era where we are obsessed with nostalgia, Red Axes achieved something against that grain while still paying homage to the underrated greats that came before them.” - Anthem Magazine

Combat Recordings teams up with Opal Tapes to release Mick Harris, with this 5 track EP of tar-black, bass heavy sonic violence. This EP features 5 reworks of “Salford Priors”, one of the heaviest tracks from his return-to-form album “Over Depth”, the first by Mick Harris himself, and 4 more by his longtime collaborators in the production guises of Fausten, Stormfield, Monster X and Scald Process. 

[Mick Harris version]
The EP begins with an apocalyptic, dubbed out violent reworked by the man himself, creeping in with a cold, calm eerie drone that quickly goes from zero to 100%, blasting into a full force attack of artillery percussion and strafing, shrapnel textures atop the landmine subs and characteristic Harris snarling mono-bass. A calm, desolate atmosphere permeates the barrage, giving an odd stillness to the rhythmic violence.

[Monster X remix]
Formerly London, now Berlin-based sound designer Julien Caraz has caused much distress over the years with the sheer rage and precision sonic assaults of his Monster X project. Here he eschews his usual frenetic tempos for a solid 130BPM, a sleek techno destroyer built for giant spaces and huge soundsystems in mind. Tense, throbbing halftime rhythms that release into a full stampede, metalwork reverberating beside the charging subs.

[Stormfield remix]
The Combat Recordings boss has worked audiovisually with Mick since the Scorn AV at Bangface Weekend in 2011, touring with Fret AV in 2018. Here he  switches back into audio mode to rework Salford Priors into a hard electro assault for the Stormfield remix.
Chopping up the original breakbeat, reworked to attack from different angles, ducking, weaving and striking like a boxer. 
Amid the relentless bassdrum pressure comes a call-and-response interplay between rhythmic elements and fierce technoid bleeps, coaxed out of his beloved Machinedrum. 

[Fausten remix]
Fausten is the shadowy, twisted collaboration between Monster X and Stormfield. Having released a staggeringly twisted album on the legendary Ad Noiseam, Fausten went into hibernation as the pair pursued their own projects, with only a few sporadic tacks surfacing over the years. The pair have been putting together an album’s worth of new material for 2019, beginning with a powerful remix of Salford Priors. Taking Fret back into it’s aquatic, fathoms-deep sonic territory, this remix is a behemoth work that moves at quarter-step tempo,allowing for more physicality and dynamics, the profound pulse of each profoundly deep bassdrum like an underwater volcanic explosion, with skittering percussion the resonates in the stillness.

[Scald Process remix]
Scald is the live-instrumentation collaboration of Stormfield, on this track featuring classical cellist Joe Zeitlin and improvisational violinist Liam Noonan, taking their intricate string recordings and reworking them into a brooding, prowling structure of snarling bass and intricate drumwork. The sinuous strings weave with a lazy elegance like trails of ink through water, surrounded by the insect chatter of the elektron machinedrum in a dusty, demonic fusion of live improvisation and deep, dusty electronics.

Early in the year, the initial outbreak of COVID-19 quickly spread to the whole China and then across the globe, creating an international public health emergency. In the hardest-hit areas of Wuhan, medical staff, infected patients and isolated citizens on the front line of the epidemic are desperately lacking all kinds of essential medical and living materials and remain in need of significant assistance and support.

In order to prevent the continued spread of the epidemic, almost all outdoor activities and large gatherings have been temporarily suspended, with the vast majority of people with no choice but to stay at home. Stuck at home ourselves, we wondered how we could help. So we put together this fundraising compilation Home Fitness, which includes 19 tracks from 20 producers from both inside and outside of China. We hope to raise some money to help those fighting against the epidemic, while also bringing some of those trapped at home together with some new music to ease out some anxiety.

All proceeds from this compilation will go to Firefly Plan for the purchase of protective clothing, diapers, sanitary pads and other essential items needed by frontline medical staff.

新冠肺炎从武汉爆发后，迅速扩散到全国乃至世界范围，造成全球性的公共健康危机。在重灾区武汉，奋战在疫情一线的医护人员、被感染的病患和被封闭在家的市民们急缺各类必需的医疗物资与生活物资，需要大量的援助与支持。

为防止疫情继续扩散，一切非生存必须的室外活动与聚集性活动被暂时叫停，大多数人都不得不窝在家中以保健康。于是，被困家中的我们筹备了这张募捐合辑《家庭保健》，收录了国内外20位音乐人捐赠的19支作品，希望能以我们的一技之长为对抗疫情出一份力，并给大家带来一些轻松与温暖。

本张合辑的所有收益将捐赠给萤火计划，用于购置前线医护人员工作所需的防护服，尿不湿，卫生巾等必备品。
