Intention Harmonization

Sit quietly, be with the long dark nights, and resist any temptation for distraction.  Let go of summer's yang tendency to set intentions and new years resolutions. Instead of dreaming up what to manifest now, wait a month or so. Simply be with emptiness, the not knowing and the dark. When we take the time to listen to our silence in the winter our spring manifestations will be aligned with our deepest prayers.

A Winter Solstice Ritual

In aligning ourselves with the seasonal cycles, we are wise to take our cues from nature: The animals are in hibernation. The plants are going down into their roots - some of them digging so deep as to reveal nothing of themselves above ground. Water freezes and the shamans are in retreat. Winter time is an opportunity to fall deep down into the depths of the ocean of the unknown, the Mystery.

Winter Solstice - Yule

Spring is upon us, and is presenting us with an amazing opportunity to replenish ourselves. The season itself represents the energy of fertility, newness, and growth, as nature flourishes all around us. Spring equinox represents the refresh/rebirth quality of the ongoing relationship between yin and yang. Yang initiates the creative energy, and yin nourishes it. It is a time of recalibration after the long winter months spent hunkered down. Much of this information has come from the wisdom teachings of Liu Ming.

Spring Equinox - Ostara

Summer Solstice marks the beginning of the end of summer. Now, Yang is at it’s highest as we enter into the longest day of the year. Afterward the solstice yang begins it’s decline as yin is birthed. In the winter, when yang is born inside of yin we celebrate it with candles, twinkling lights, and stories from various religions about the coming of the light. Rarely, however, do we celebrate the birth of the dark at summer solstice. However, doing so, would help us calibrate to the qi of the season and aid yang in making way for yin to gradually dominate. This recording is based on the teachings of Liu Ming.

Summer Solstice - Litha

This new moon marks the beginning of winter - the time of the solar cycle when there is wisdom in slowing down as we listening to natures rhythms. Winter is a time of rest - an out-breath, a hibernation, and a turning inward. We are half way between autumn equinox and winter solstice.

Winter Begins - Yin Hides Yang - Samhain

Spring brings with it a tremendous opportunity to refresh and renew our lives. Below the ground seeds are beginning to sprout. This return of yang brings enormous potential for recalibration.

As we evolve in our lives we need to let go of old patterns in order to break into higher levels of consciousness. This is a fantastic time to let go of the stale, let go of habits that no longer serve us, and move towards the people and things most nourishing in our life. 

"One should breathe in the freshness of spring qi. Since spring is the season of renewal, one must not interfere with new growth. One should offer one's qi to help the new and weak survive and not kill. One should give not take; reward and not punish." - Neijing

Spring Begins - Imbolc

Happy Summer! May Day, May 1st, or Beltane, marks the first day of Summer in pagan traditions. According to the Tong Shu, the ancient Chinese almanac, May 5th of 2020 is the first day of Summer. This is the time of abundant growth, the zenith of yang energy, and is ideal for activity, ripening, and completion. More can be found in my blog at the link below.

May Day, Beltane, and Summer Begins

The beginning of Autumn is the most important time to pay attention to the changing of the seasons, and, conversely, the most difficult time to do so. This is because of the very nature of yang’s dominant energy. Yang moves upward and outward. It is about doing and going. If we are very busy with summer's yang activities we may fail to notice the changing of the light, the increased wind, and the garden ready to harvest. All of these signal a time to shift our conduct and begin our journey inward.

Autumn Begins

Autumn is the time to let go of that which is no longer serving us, to harvest that which we manifested over the warmer seasons, and to turn our energy inward and towards reflection. During the fall, our environment becomes more and more yin. As harvests are finishing up, a pleasant stillness arrives. It is the time of the metal element, characterized by cool, dry wind and a vulnerability for lung ailments.

Autumn is the time to pull inward and gather our qi into ourselves on all levels as we organize the scattered and spontaneous patterns of the summer months and harmonize with our inner worlds. It is an excellent time to feel grief, let go, and allow what is.
