Local Hearts is the new compilation presented by @oldetapes, the label founded by JAAW, bringing together 16 artists from different parts of the world who share a common vision: celebrating electronic culture from the local to the global. The result is a diverse, energetic, and honest collection that highlights the nuances of a scene in constant motion.

Each track brings its own identity: from twisted Latin rhythms, emotional house, and muscular techno to rave experiments and nostalgia-soaked melodies. Local Hearts works as a sonic map that connects scenes, cities, and sensibilities, establishing Olde Tapes as a label that looks outward without losing its roots.

New York based D.C. LaRue has been recording and performing since 1974 but it was his track “Cathedrals” in ’76 that really got him noticed amongst the heavy weight disco releases of the time.  The double A-side 12" single of "Cathedrals" was one of the earliest commercially available 12" singles and went on to hit number 1 on the Billboard Dance Music Club and Disco Single charts.

Subsequent singles “Overture” and “Indiscreet” both topped out at number 2 on the Billboard Dance Music Club charts and “Indiscreet” became an influential track in the hip hop sampling world.

Fast forward to the present day and armed with digital transfers of the original master tapes, Z Records has commissioned remixes of these classic tracks plus “Let Them Dance” and “Do You Want The Real Thing”.

Released over two limited edition picture sleeve 12’s pressed exclusively for Record Store Day 2018, the remixes come from Idjut Boys, Ron Basejam, Dr Packer, Folamour, JKriv and Joey Negro.

All tracks have some kind of story but this is a rather special one. Recently legendary American dance producer Arthur Baker discovered in his storage 2 cuts on 1/4” tape ’Reachin’ & ‘Good Good Lovin’ he recorded in 1979 that for some insane reason have never seen the light of day. He asked Hifi Sean if he would be interested in doing something with them. Within one play Hifi was blown away and brought on board Yam Who? and they quickly got to work resurrecting these soulful disco anthems. Main cut featured here ‘Reachin’ with Minnie Gardners fierce vocals (think Loleatta Holloway) just needed some modern day dance floor energy. Salvaging the useable sections of the tape that were not worn through time and 2 weeks later they bring this percussive disco monster back to life. Look out for the forthcoming 7" via Prime Direct Distribution.

Kicking things off, Atlanta based DJ/producer Stan Zeff returns to the label with his fresh Afro house infused remix of the mighty Wolf Story’s original mix “Blue Parrot.” California based Coflo seems to be the man with the plan recently with some incredibly Afro infused funkiness coming from his studio! He slides in next with a super fresh remix of SoulLab & Richelle Hicks’s single “Why Should I Stay.” We’ve been sitting on this unreleased dub mix from Kelvin Sylvester of guri guri boys feat. Josh Milan’s “Be Yourself” for a minute, however, we know you’ll love playing this out. Finally, UK based DJ/producer Fizzikx concludes the release with his upbeat and funky remix of James Benedict’s “Piano Pop.”
