THE CHURCH BELLS' TONE

This is a song I wrote especially for the 40 year celebration of Bear Family Records. And it's featured on their 40 year anniversary CD box. 

Recorded and co-produced by Christoffer Johansson at Fabriken, 2014. Performed by Bror Gunnar Jansson on drums, percussion, voice, guitars and saxophone. With Christoffer Johansson on some percussion as well.

The word bearsnake is originally a term for a football exercise. Because of the infamous difficulty of a bearsnake, the name has become a synonym for anyone who is stupid. In this song it is used as the name for a hoodoo spell instead, with the using of the spell will make someone really dumb, and therefor useful as an underling.

Den här tagningen är faktiskt inte bara en vanlig första-tagning, utan första gången låten överhuvudtaget framförts. Jag själv hade aldrig ens spelat igenom hela låten tidigare. Och därför tyckte jag att den kunde vara en bra start på skivan!

Handlar om William Joseph Dean, och dennes förhållande till sin mor, Mary Lee. Mary är djupt troende, på det sätt att för henne är allting en synd: Sjunga, dansa... Därav får Billy ständigt höra redan från tidig ålder att han är en syndare, och bestämmer sig för att bli den värsta syndaren av alla. Samtidigt, den allvarsamma kontexten till trots, är låten textmässigt en kommentar till den glada Western Swing-klassikern ‘Mama Don’t Allow It’ inspelad bland annat av Julia Lee & Her Boyfriends, 1947.
