Ego Undermined

From our first Proof of Utah album. Released in 1984. Louie and I recorded this song on our cassette-based 4-track Teac Portastudio. We mixed it right off the Portastudio and onto the final 2-track tape for the album.

Unexpected Gateways [Brosco / Boson Spin Collaboration]

When my daughter was 5 she had a bad cold that kept her from attending school. I stayed home to watch her. I gave her a good dose of cold medicine and put her to bed. Assuming she’d be sleeping for a while I started playing with a new synth plug-in. While playing back a simple riff I had recorded I was surprised to hear a little voice beside me talking about a magical cat in time with the music. I asked her if she could do it again and handed her the talkback mic I had which ran through a channel. I hit record and captured this free-association improvisation which could only come from the mind of a 5-year old.

The Cat Emoticons
Said his first word
It was “my head”
The creepy cat
Snuck and stole
But that cat gave it back
When he was sixty-four he said
“I know I can say something”
That cat said “No I don’t see any futures”
But that cat was enormous cat of light
You could see him in the day
He said words
The magic cat
His breath was stiff and clean
He said “Enormous creatures of my life”

The mist of tens
He was deathly stroked
He was occasions
He spoke up in his language 
But there was no mischief 
He had this gnome of noses
This creep of creepers
The cat had wings and flied
The wizard cat
If you belove him he would say
“My head”

I'm primarily a guitar player but I'll try to make music with anything you throw at me. When left to my own devices I enjoy recording minimalist ambient pieces and textural soundscapes. My principal sound source for these efforts is manipulated guitar but I often include electronics and organic sources. I enjoy working on collaborations with other musicians.
