'It's In Your Hands Now' is a track off 'The Return of the Locusts', a soon-to-be-released album by Brother Akan. This track challenges people to rise up and seize the moment, to change their lives for the better.

'Asibi' is from my second CD, The Return of the Locusts (Release Date: 30 September 2014). The poem is about a love affair that is being challenged by schisms of the world. It is an appeal by one lover to the other to ignore pressures from outsiders and focus on possibilities of what they have between them.

'My Hands Are Up' is a poem about frustration against incessant brutality wrecked on American citizens by police departments throughout the country. It is also about institutionalized racism in the practice of law enforcement in the USA.

Using the last words of Micheal Brown of Ferguson, Missouri, this track speaks to the humanity that is often missing when citizens come into contact with law enforcement agents. Brown was unarmed when he was gunned down in barrage of bullets by a police officer. His story is a microcosm of centuries of arbitrary killings of citizens by people acting in the name of the law.

'What's Happening?' is a track by The Spokespoets, a group of three Spoken Word artistes whose goal is social justice. This track encapsulates the varied reactions to incessant police brutality in the United States of America.

This song is in reaction to the recent spate of xenophobic attacks against immigrants in South Africa. Pidgin Masters, a Ghanaian-American hip pop group, reminds us all that the brotherhood of man is too important to be lost to acts of hatred.

Brother Akan is a Spoken Word Artiste who concentrates on issues that are most likely to be abandoned by mainstream society. His debut album, 'The Free Show' is about the ease with which the disease of wickedness spreads among us. Akan considers himself, in the Socratic sense, a citizen of the world. This stance makes him concerned with any form of injustice anywhere in the world. As a poet-prophet and street philosopher, Akan lays into the embedded nonchalance that exists in modern society. He lives in the Washington DC area.
