In his home country Poland, Pete Grace is already a well-known and respected DJ and producer. Over the last few years his releases on the Warsaw labels Spekulla Records, Taste The Music and Time2fly Records have also been played over and over beyond the borders of Poland naturally. The next logical step for Grace now, is to make his club sound with its distinctive East European touch available for the public at large – via Sonar Kollektiv.

This way he also benefits from Pete Josef's astonishing voice. Within the last two years the Bristolian singer and one half of The White Lamp has come to be something like the in-house voice of Sonar Kollektiv (f.e. to be heard on Alex Barck's album “Reunion”, on the album “Lux” by Paskal & Urban Absolutes and the last EP by Marlow, “Backroom”). You can hear how well the two Petes match from the very first verse: „Finally I can see your face, finally I can see you the way you taste“, sings Josef and a bassline kicks in as snappy and smart as a Polish hunting dog. But what starts like a proper House tune crumbles again and again into sentimental breaks to gain at the same time vast sex and pop appeal. Worth watching is the accompanying video clip, telling the story of a beauty, which you can only find in Poland.

To unlock the full potential of the track also in the club world, Mao and Rockford Inc. have been kindly asked to deliver remixes. After flying high with the remix of Alex Barck's “Doubter” the twosome Mao keeps the altitude high to drop another bomb, giving every dancefloor in this world the shivers with this impelling, sombre remix. Also not for the first time working for Sonar Kollektiv is Oliver Marquardt under his Rockford Inc. moniker. Which goal his revision of “The Way You Taste” is aiming for says the name itself „Sunday Brunch On A Dancefloor Rework“. And actually, these are the exact occasions in Marquardt's home town Berlin that cause quite often the most euphoria.

After the long-awaited debut by ComixXx („The Great Escape“) on Sonar Kollektiv, we get another stunning single release with „Broken Connection“. Sung by Pete Josef this is one of many standout tracks of the 14 piece strong oeuvre.

The first remix is by Berlin producer Maurycy Zimmermann aka Mooryc. And he snatches right into his bag of tricks to pull out a bagpipe for the intro fanfare, or a vinyl crackling to lend the song some subtle nostalgia. It remains his very own secret though, where the hell he got that female voice from, that suddenly duets with Josef out of the blue. Anyway, the beat drags pantingly along the piano turning the rather cheerful original composition in next to no time into a bittersweet ballad.

Kalipo takes things not much less melancholic. The native Bavarian residing now in Berlin and known as a member of the electropunk outfit Frittenbude doesn't slows down the pace but uses subtly sprinkled synth chords lifting Josef's vocals through the clouds. A remix made for the wee hours of the morning after the party full of heartache and longing.
The third and last remix is done by Aanbreken. He also puts his full concentration on the vocals and builds his framework of slightly broken beats and distorted synths around them. The arrangement is the fine art of “tease & denial”.

Tim Aminov caught attention for the first time as one half of Aanbreken and their EP “Verge” at the end of 2014. Now Sonar Kollektiv asked the in vocation abounding Russian for another EP, which will lead most probably to Aminov's big breakthrough.

The opening track with Pete Josef, “One Lone Survivor”, displays this five tracks strong collection's line of approach: Aminov wades knee-deep through a pond, mist so dense you can't see your hand in front of your face, but still during the next 23 minutes the listener feels always cozy and well taken care of. 
On “Insight” and “Lonely God” the angelic voice of his Aanbreken partner Gala Ga turns the interlaced, somehow uncanny productions into beautiful anthems for long winter nights. 

Same goes for “Whale”, a heart-warming ballad with a (yet) unknown, but not less expertly impressing singer by the name of Dalini. And with Vasilia Moroz, aka Unibird, we discover through “Leave Only” even another brand new, striking voice from Moscow, whose fragility is tailor-made for Tim Aminov's emotive songwriting.

“Moment” is a bit like a gala of different, breath-taking voices, but most of all of Aminov's immense aptitude.

Last autumn the long-awaited debut “Colour” by Pete Josef saw its release on Sonar Kollektiv. Now the first 12inch with four fantastic remixes arrives (the digital release comes even with six of them).

The remix by British LV for “Hope” is the perfect kick-off and whets one's appetite for more. Their sensuous rework accommodates Josef's voice immaculately and lets the bassline vibrate as gracefully as a treetop in the vernal wind.

Appropriately another duo, this one from Montreal, delivers an ultra smooth remix for “Spring At Last”: The Black 80s fortify herewith their claim to be the next hot shit. Also a name to watch out for over the next few months is the one by Fabian Dikof. Everything he learned by his mentor Andre Lodemann is translated in his work into an incredible, chameleonic vision of house music. To be heard on his remix for “Colour” and its dub version.

Another remix for “Colour” comes all the way out of the prosperous Vancouver scene by the Potatohead People. The “Lights Off” as well as the “Lights On” remix are both gentle RnB with the emphasis on the snare and on the lovey-dovey synth melody. All in all, exactly the sort of remixes not only Pete Josef was wishing for, but also we as the listeners, to tune into this summer's groove.

For its fifth consecutive edition the Japanese branch of the Montreux Jazz Festival invited – amongst others – Pete Josef for an exclusive gig. To celebrate this honorable deference Sonar Kollektiv releases a special 3-track EP. “The Travelling Song” off Josef's debut album “Colour” gets three different remixes which suit the occasion perfectly. The first one comes from the Kyoto Jazz Sextet and turns the pop song into a proper Bebop track with mesmerizing horn stabs and a drum break out of this world. The remix by DJ Kawasaki & Makoto pushes the song straight onto the dancefloor by making a uplifting vocal house track out of it. The third and last rework by Mark De Clive-Lowe from New Zealand keeps the positive, life-affirming vibes up. His version is probably the one with the most explicit effect in the club, while the other two remixes are the ones to be heard on radio stations all around the world, not only in Japan.

The release of Colour brought Pete Josef to the attention of some much-respected fellow artists, and none more so than 2009 Mercury award winner, Speech Debelle.  Responding to the effervescent energy of the album’s title track, Speech apparently penned her inspired verse whilst listening to ‘Colour’ at the beach.  Her mercurial spoken word graces the intro of this edit with a swing and a swagger only a rapper of her caliber could muster.  She references religion, philosophy and the natural world in a verse that builds in intensity to introduce the by-now familiar opening ‘Ooh’s’ of this snapshot of the joys of living in a Technicolor world.

Alex Barck releases ‘Re-set’, the first in a series of 12” vinyl only singles leading to his debut solo album ‘Reunion’. As well as heralding Barck’s first solo work, it also features the future album’s first featured guest in Bristol vocalist Pete Josef.

Three more 12" singles will be released throughout the year before ‘Reunion’ drops later in 2013.

Barck and family left Germany last summer for a new home on the idyllic La Reunion Indian Ocean island, which gifts the album its ambiguous title as well as a theme of new beginnings and fusion. It is here where he has been progressively guiding ‘Reunion’ through to completion for the past year.
