Believe it or not, Devizes used to be  on the main line to Paddington, that is until they built the cut-off from Patney & Chirton to Westbury therby bypassing the town. As a consequence, the town lost it's railway in 1966 as part of the Beeching cuts. Since then the final reminders of the line are gradually disappears year on year including the Great Western pub which used to be located at the top of Station Road and which, like the station site, is now a car park. There's a touch of irony there...

Browfort take their name not from the Local Council offices as many may think, but from the large house that still occupies part of the site and where, many, many years ago, Pete's grandfather was the gardener. Formed as a duo in 2008, Pete (Guitar) and Tim (Vocals, Historical Research) were then joined by rock-steady Steve on Bass and shortly afterwards by Clare on Even More Vocals. The band played their first gig in The Merchant's Suite in the Corn Exchange, Devizes in December 2009 and are currently working on their second collection of songs.
