Do you believe in conincidences?

I don’t - anymore. I used to believe in conincidences but I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason. And that everything in life happens for you, not to you.

So, I have been busying myself with the idea of an remix album of classic tracks of mine for quite some time. But I struggled with the selection of tracks and which remix artist to pair with which track.  Until certain people entered my life. Some of them I only „met“ through their music on social media and never in person, others I met briefly, like in a car to a festival and some I started to hang out with and they became real life friends. All of these people connect with my music and I feel drawn to their music and in many ways we insprire each other.  As a natural result this remix EP took shape and I am excited to present it to you. The record contains four remixes of tracks from my back catalogue that cover a period of 20 (!) years, from my early days on Bush in the mid 90s to my first label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten in the 00`s up until now, where I run Electric Ballroom from Berlin. As Planetary Assault Systems, @Luke-Slater is an innovator of psychedelic mindfuck techno. Across a lengthy catalogue that stretches back into the 90s, the music’s bleepy, polyrhythmic loops are as recognizable as they are genre-defining. ‘Plantae’ is Slater’s first release as PAS on Ostgut Ton since ‘Arc Angel’ (2016) and covers the spectrum of PAS’s different strains while remaining grounded in Slater’s uncanny funk and knack for developing oblique melodies and rhythms over longer stretches. Deepness and hypnosis come as much through duration as sound design.

For Slater, ‘Plantae’ is made for Berghain, where he is a long-standing resident. In his own words: “I’m sure it’s no surprise that when it comes to putting together a release on Ostgut Ton, PAS takes on its more mind-altering, otherworldly quality by natural cause, quietly reflecting the dark sweaty nights and days at the club; at the point, the common neural coupling, of us all together. PAS has been part of Berghain and Berghain part of PAS for a long time. All of these tracks needed to pass the Berghain test in my sets first stop.”

Ellen Allien - one of Berlin’s most ardent techno ambassadors - proudly unveils her latest full-length expedition into the realms of underground electronica. Brimming with creative energy, Ellen’s new LP AURAA follows her 2019 release Alientronic, and is her third album in three years. Raw, emotive and capable of transporting you from reality to an electrofied fantasy, AURAA explores the notion of unseen energies controlling our planet.

Beginning with the faintest hint of trance euphoria on the downtempo ‘Hello Planet Earth (Breath Mix)’, the album soon moves into more bumpin’ territory with ‘In Music I Trust’ - Ellen’s signature use of vocals-as-melody entrancing the listener. ‘Walking In The Dark’ takes things up a notch further with jabbing percussion and mesmerising atmospherics, followed by ‘Confusion’, a masterclass in heady hypnotic composition. ‘Human’ is a deeply affecting beatless segue with its drone-esque soundscape. ‘True Romantics’ taps into your emotional centre utilising hard beats and wistful synth lines. BPitch welcomes Italian acid duo Boston 168 back to the fold as the label’s 2020 campaign continues. The pair produced the ‘909 Therapy’ EP and the back in 2019 after their successful ‚Drops In Heaven’ debut
on BPitch, so it’s a pleasure to have them return with ‘Vax Of Love’, a three-track continuation of their ex- periments with industrial sounds and the timeless appeal of the beloved Roland TR-303 and its squelchy secretions. What we have here is the product of one of Italy’s ‘Motor Cities’, the ghosts of abandoned factories present in every beat, bassline and acid-tinged motif...
First up is ‘Kiss My Accent’, a dense playful cut with a potent analogue hoover effect keeping the energy levels high. Pounding beats propel the track forward, while the analogue riff warps and twists, modulating into various guises throughout. It’s dramatic and tense, moving the listener physically and mentally.
This is followed by ‘Mononucleacid’, which has a morose feeling from the start. The drums stomp down sen- ding shockwaves through the ground as the rhythm grabs you and refuses to let go. We’re taken back with a nineties influence, though the production levels are crisp and contemporary. As the cut progresses Boston 168 cultivate a stirring atmosphere designed to ignite the dance floor and cause uproar.
Finally, ‘Vax Of Love’ takes us into breakbeat territory as the duo put their own spin on a familiar drum pattern. It’s strange and unique, with rousing organ-esque effects working in tandem with cosmic squelch effects and a wistful spoken word sample. The beats switch up, taking on a 4x4 rhythm at one point, Boston 168 showcasing their creative flair with this one. The intensity increases after a short breakdown, leading us to the interstellar ending...

Dancing in the Sound Factory, End-Up, Ice Factory, Mayan, Orbit, the Cat Club and the underground of LA. I threw undergrounds in downtown Los Angeles and ran a legal warehouse for four years. This is my beginning. It will never end.
