Organic Electronic Jazz and Ambient Music


Soul Rhythm is the sound of ambient and Techno music which combines electronic rhythms; beats from urban, Indian and African traditions with an overlay of jazz improvisations, poetry, and spoken-word rhymes. Their music is a combination of organic and electronic instruments, which are reminiscent of 70’s Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Sun Ra with a futuristic backdrop, pioneered by producer Bill Laswell and trip-hop artist Tricky. The sound is a fresh fusion of modern electronic music and acoustic sounds. The bands recent music project is a new CD album titled, Between 2 Seas (POPPMusic.net CD 2012 Product No.: POPP-MT001) that is produced and mixed by KAS and Caleb Grayson, that is currently enjoying airplay on radio stations in Detroit. Other releases include the CD recordings: Foundation, Coming Forth By Day, and Bless the Rhythm. Live the band’s performance is a polished electro-acoustic orchestral journey.


The Soul Rhythm band was envisioned and created by KAS, which features guitar work and vocals by Caleb Grayson, the bandleader of Quaker Cage and owner of Xhedos (now closed), which was once one of Metro Detroit's hottest multimedia venue with a holistic flair. KAS the Detroit producer, promoter, bandleader, and best known for ONXYZ Primal Electric Band; KAS Serenity; Earth Island Orchestra; MIYON; and his musical work with members of P-Funk. On the instrumental organic, electronic, and ambient song, titled, Out of a Dream Into a Grove (4 Phase Vortxes) KAS plays keyboards, electronic programming, and percussions. The late great Faruq Z. Bey, the Godfather of Avant-Garde Jazz in Detroit, known as a brilliant Jazz Writer, Composer, Poet, and the founder of the critically acclaimed Griot Galaxy jazz group is featured on saxophone and flute. Faruq Z. Bey has also shared the stage with Leroy Jenkins, Roscoe Mitchell, James Blood Ulmer, Art Ensemble of Chicago, and others jazz greats. Peggy King Ahmed (best known for her work with the “Layabouts” and “Earth Island Orchestra”), a versatile musician, radio personality, and teacher performs vocal duties and Middle Eastern and Asian percussions, along with percussionist, River, a leader in the Metro Detroit drum circles. Kenny Captoin handles electric and acoustic percussion duties. Jason Hogans from Planet E performs keyboards and electronics. Soul Rhythm has developed a huge underground following reflecting a cross segment of fans and music loyalists. The band did a smashing performance at Detroit’s “Taste Fest” and also at the Cutting Room in New York City opening for the band Burnt Sugar. The Soul Rhythm band has shared the stage with Grammy Award winner, Michael Rose at the Chicago Reggae Festival. In addition, the band often features various guest and alumni, such as, Funk guitarist, Ron Smith best known for work with Enemy Squad and P-Funk; Geter Most, Drum and Bass Electronics; Adam playing Sitar and Tambura; Kenny Robinson, Electronic Trumpet and Flugelhorn; and New York City’s, Tom Russo on Trumpet and Flugelhorn.

KAS SERENITY band featured national musical recording and performers: vocalists Kim Berry, Miyon and Crystal Glass, along with; saxophonist, Yataka Handa, from Japan; Detroit saxophonist, Faruq Z. Bey; New York guitarist, Kelvyn Bell, known for his guitar work with Kelvynator, DeFunkt, and as band leader with the Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, and Techno/Drum and Bass producer, Geter Most (Funk Lab, Detroit). KAS SERENITY, the band blends R & B soul beats into what is today called Rhythm & Ambient or Acid Jazz. The group has opened shows for hip-hop artist, Missy Elliott; the R&B girl group, Total; Morris Day and The Time; Little Milton; Dionne Warwick, The Delfonics, Gory Glover, Rachid, Foday Musa Sosu, and others. They have performed throughout the USA, including, numerous clubs and venues, including such festivals as the African World Festival (Milwaukee, WI), African World Festival (Detroit, MI), African Festival (Lexington, KY), and African-American Festival of the Arts (Chicago, IL); and the African Street Festival (Nashville, TN).


KAS SERENITY has one of the most dynamic sounds heard today. It is a show not to be missed. Live the band blends R & B soul beats into what is today called Rhythm & Ambient or Acid Jazz, techno, electro, and the alternative R&B Music idiom. 


Some of the highlights of the, Compact Discs/Album, titled, Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) which was originally released on the POPP INC/Ichiban Record label and is now available on the internet as music downloads features a stunning remake of The Dramatics song, "In the Rain” (written by Tony Hester), and the hit instrumental tune, "7 Mile Road", along with the instrumental tune, “Back & Forth” (written by R. Kelly), which was originally performed and recorded by the American singer, actress and model, Aaliyah in 1994 on her debut studio album. Three song titles from Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) have been featured on television and radio as theme songs and played on numerous radio stations including, WDET (Detroit), 105.9 (Detroit), VJAZZ 98.7 (Detroit), WGPR 107.5 (Detroit). Four tracks from the CD/Album, Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) were featured on the sound track for the film, MOVING TARGET (Distributed by Maverick) and are available nationally. The slow jam, "In the Rain" features, vocalist Kim Berry, and musician, Yutaka Handa (Tokyo, Japan) on saxophone.


KAS also created the Organic Electric Jazz Ambient group, SOUL RHYTHM. One of the band’s many music projects is the CD album titled, Between 2 Seas (POPPMusic.net) that is produced and mixed by KAS and Caleb Grayson which is enjoying airplay on many radio stations and online digital media. Soul Rhythm has developed a huge underground following reflecting a cross segment of fans and music loyalists by doing a Techno-Jazz Music Series at Club Xhedos and Hunter House. The band did a smashing performance at Detroit’s “Taste Fest” and at the Cutting Room in New York City opening for Greg Tate’s band Burnt Sugar. The band has opened for Grammy Award winner, Michael Rose.

Some of the highlights of the, Compact Discs/Album, titled, Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) which was originally released on the POPP INC/Ichiban Record label and is now available on the internet as music downloads features a stunning remake of The Dramatics song, "In the Rain” (written by Tony Hester), and the hit instrumental tune, "7 Mile Road", along with the instrumental tune, “Back & Forth” (written by R. Kelly), which was originally performed and recorded by the American singer, actress and model, Aaliyah in 1994 on her debut studio album. Three song titles from Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) have been featured on television and radio as theme songs and played on numerous radio stations including, WDET (Detroit), 105.9 (Detroit), VJAZZ 98.7 (Detroit), WGPR 107.5 (Detroit). Four tracks from the CD/Album, Return to Rainbow Bridge (POPP INC) were featured on the sound track for the film, MOVING TARGET (Distributed by Maverick) and are available nationally. The slow jam, "In the Rain" features, vocalist Kim Berry, and musician, Yutaka Handa (Tokyo, Japan) on saxophone.


KAS also created the Organic Electric Jazz Ambient group, SOUL RHYTHM. One of the band’s many music projects is the CD album titled, Between 2 Seas (POPPMusic.net) that is produced and mixed by KAS and Caleb Grayson which is enjoying airplay on many radio stations and online digital media. Soul Rhythm has developed a huge underground following reflecting a cross segment of fans and music loyalists by doing a Techno-Jazz Music Series at Club Xhedos and Hunter House. The band did a smashing performance at Detroit’s “Taste Fest” and at the Cutting Room in New York City opening for Greg Tate’s band Burnt Sugar. The band has opened for Grammy Award winner, Michael Rose.

KAS started a solo project playing jazz, electronic, techno, Alternative R&B, and acid-jazz and released a CD album, titled, “Return to Rainbow Bridge” on Ichiban Records/POPP INC. The KAS SERENITY band was a synthesis of twenty years of musical sound combining contemporary jazz, Ambient, R & B and Electronic Groove. KAS SERENITY band featured national musical recording and performers: vocalists Kim Berry, Miyon and Crystal Glass, along with; saxophonist, Yataka Handa, from Japan; Detroit saxophonist, Faruq Z. Bey; New York guitarist, Kelvyn Bell, known for his guitar work with Kelvynator, DeFunkt, and as band leader with the Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, and Techno/Drum and Bass producer, Geter Most (Funk Lab, Detroit). KAS SERENITY, the band blends R & B soul beats into what is today called Rhythm & Ambient or Acid Jazz. The group has opened shows for hip-hop artist, Missy Elliott; the R&B girl group, Total; Morris Day and The Time; Little Milton; Dionne Warwick, The Delfonics, Gory Glover, Rachid, Foday Musa Sosu, and others. They have performed throughout the USA, including, numerous clubs and venues, including such festivals as the African World Festival (Milwaukee, WI), African World Festival (Detroit, MI), African Festival (Lexington, KY), and African-American Festival of the Arts (Chicago, IL); and the African Street Festival (Nashville, TN).

Organic Electronic Jazz and Ambient Music


Soul Rhythm is the sound of ambient and Techno music which combines electronic rhythms; beats from urban, Indian and African traditions with an overlay of jazz improvisations, poetry, and spoken-word rhymes. Their music is a combination of organic and electronic instruments, which are reminiscent of 70’s Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Sun Ra with a futuristic backdrop, pioneered by producer Bill Laswell and trip-hop artist Tricky. The sound is a fresh fusion of modern electronic music and acoustic sounds. The bands recent music project is a new CD album titled, Between 2 Seas (POPPMusic.net CD 2012 Product No.: POPP-MT001) that is produced and mixed by KAS and Caleb Grayson, that is currently enjoying airplay on radio stations in Detroit. Other releases include the CD recordings: Foundation, Coming Forth By Day, and Bless the Rhythm. Live the band’s performance is a polished electro-acoustic orchestral journey.


The Soul Rhythm band was envisioned and created by KAS, which features guitar work and vocals by Caleb Grayson, the bandleader of Quaker Cage and owner of Xhedos (now closed), which was once one of Metro Detroit's hottest multimedia venue with a holistic flair. KAS the Detroit producer, promoter, bandleader, and best known for ONXYZ Primal Electric Band; KAS Serenity; Earth Island Orchestra; MIYON; and his musical work with members of P-Funk. On the instrumental organic, electronic, and ambient song, titled, Out of a Dream Into a Grove (4 Phase Vortxes) KAS plays keyboards, electronic programming, and percussions. The late great Faruq Z. Bey, the Godfather of Avant-Garde Jazz in Detroit, known as a brilliant Jazz Writer, Composer, Poet, and the founder of the critically acclaimed Griot Galaxy jazz group is featured on saxophone and flute. Faruq Z. Bey has also shared the stage with Leroy Jenkins, Roscoe Mitchell, James Blood Ulmer, Art Ensemble of Chicago, and others jazz greats. Peggy King Ahmed (best known for her work with the “Layabouts” and “Earth Island Orchestra”), a versatile musician, radio personality, and teacher performs vocal duties and Middle Eastern and Asian percussions, along with percussionist, River, a leader in the Metro Detroit drum circles. Kenny Captoin handles electric and acoustic percussion duties. Jason Hogans from Planet E performs keyboards and electronics. Soul Rhythm has developed a huge underground following reflecting a cross segment of fans and music loyalists. The band did a smashing performance at Detroit’s “Taste Fest” and also at the Cutting Room in New York City opening for the band Burnt Sugar. The Soul Rhythm band has shared the stage with Grammy Award winner, Michael Rose at the Chicago Reggae Festival. In addition, the band often features various guest and alumni, such as, Funk guitarist, Ron Smith best known for work with Enemy Squad and P-Funk; Geter Most, Drum and Bass Electronics; Adam playing Sitar and Tambura; Kenny Robinson, Electronic Trumpet and Flugelhorn; and New York City’s, Tom Russo on Trumpet and Flugelhorn.

A song that protests against the blatant hatred, racism, and brutality directed at Black People that often results in the death of Black People.
The bigger issue that warrants this protest is the fact that the leadership of America is not even speaking out against it, which makes it seem like an "open season" on Black folk has been sanctioned.
Well, whether it is or not, Black folk are tired of trusting that there will be a change.  It is time to defend ourselves , police the police and monitor anyone or other group who thinks they can handle us any way they see fit.  Tired. Of. This. Shit.

Award winning Music Conceptualist/Vocalist & Composer Bruce Mack  the artist/band is a multi-genre vocalist, composer & instrumentalist who performs and fuses various styles of music with funk & space in mind, generating a sound he calls “alternative rhythm & blues”. 

A veteran of the New York music scene,  Mack shares his talents with several ensembles including Divine Pocket Bouncers, Eighty-Pound Pug, Nubian Messengers and Rules Of Aquah.
Since 1999, Mack has been a recording, touring and conducting member of Greg Tate’s Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber (BSAC), contributing as a keyboardist, composer & vocalist often in collaboration with Vernon Reid, Jared Nickerson, Vernon Jeffery Smith and numerous others.
As a result of work w/BSAC, Mack had the honor of being vocal arranger for the legendary actor/filmmaker/composer-Melvin Van Peebles’ wid/Laxative band for several years.  Also toured with MVP in U.S. & France to perform the stage version of ’Sweet Sweetback’s Baddass Song”.
Other cutting edge greats Mack has performed with include Butch Morris, None Hendryx, Wunmi, James Blood Ulmer, Somi, 
DJ Logic, and Brandee Younger.

Since 2014, B-Mack has released 2 albums “Lo-Fi Exploits of a Misplant On Shaolin” (2018) and “Bruce Mack w/Nubian Messengers, Live at Pianos, NYC” (2019) as well as several moody-jazz-influenced lo-fi singles not typical of what BMack is known for aside from his improvised vocals on “Double O Nobody”, “Karma Can Be Long”, “I Do Udo On Monday”, “Sister Space Shifter” and “Don’t Think You Know” representing “a period of intimate self expression”.  The songs  “Ugly Head” and “Throw My Hands Up!” are closer to the sound and ideas Mack is known for as in his earlier bands PBR Streetgang & Rebels Be Phuncky (1980’s-late 90’s).   Bruce Mack writes and produces with a social conscious mind, yet never dismissing one’s need to dance which always prompts a party song with an infectious groove somewhere in his compilation of music.

Having started out as a singer with a desire to write for himself and others in a do-wop style vocal group, his creative drive hasn’t waivered.  Mack has composed & arranged for BSAC, been featured as percussionist in the alternative band Johnny Mez & The Fatman on the 2015 album “Inner City Hero”, that same year as vocalist/co-writer of 
“When The Flowers Bloom In Baltimore” an album by experimental-metal-band Eighty-Pound Pug (Alex Lozupone Project). 
Then featured again In 2016 along with Alex Lozupone & Ayumi Ishito  on the album “As Serious As A Pug-Attack”.

Bruce Mack is currently recording new music for B-Mack, alter-ego Blackfoot Ayeshi, PBR Streetgang, MsLarayne and
preparing the independent release of 3 singles in early 2024.
